Ayleid ruins, also known as elven ruins, are the ancient and decrepit cities and structures in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion belonging to the long-extinct race of elves known as the Ayleids who once ruled over Cyrodiil. Ayleid ruins can be found in all parts of the province.
Background[]
- "I've seen plenty of Ayleid ruins. You'd think they'd be picked clean after 2000 years, but, no, there's still great treasures there."
- ―Rumors[src]
Since the slow decline of their race starting after the Alessian Slave Rebellion in the First Era, the various Ayleid kingdoms and city-states of Cyrodiil have become abandoned labyrinths inhabited only by bandits, creatures and the undead. Despite the long abandonment of the many ruins throughout the province, valuable treasures remain within them, as well as still functional traps.
As well as the hostile inhabitants within, Ayleid ruins are laden with traps and natural hazards such as swinging blades in hallways, sliding spiked grates, chambers of poison gas, platforms that rise or fall to spikes above or below, and dark welkynd stones that attack nearby targets with elemental projectiles.
