Black Book: Epistolary Acumen is a book in The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn that is a part of the collection of Black Books.

Summary[]

Black Book: Epistolary Acumen is found during the main questline. If read on Solstheim, it will transport the Dragonborn to Apocrypha, where they may change the effect of their shouts to Dragonborn Force, Dragonborn Flame or Dragonborn Frost. This book consists of only one page, hence the cut off sentence.

Found in Nchardak during the quest "The Path of Knowledge."

After obtaining the book and talking to Storn it will be added to his inventory and must either be looted after he reads it or obtained from Frea later on.

Relationship to the Dwemer[]

The Dwemer were able to find this Black Book while they were searching for forbidden knowledge. According to Neloth, the Dwemer had a specialty for obtaining and studying forbidden knowledge. In this case, the Dwemer were attempting to find the Bend Will shout and the three Dragonborn powers, Dragonborn Force, Dragonborn Flame and Dragonborn Frost.[1]

Trivia[]

  • This Black Book is mentioned in the book The Library of Dusk: Rare Books. Its author is listed simply as, "The Transparent One." According to its curators it is kept away from the public, as it contains forbidden invocations of Daedra that are either very destructive, or are enemies of Molag Bal.
  • If the cursor is hovered in the black book at the apocrypha it will say "Return to Solstheim" but only the middle area that can teleport the Dragonborn into Solstheim when interacted (could be bug).
