Blackroot Lair is off the main road going south from the Gates of Madness. As with many other caves, this cave contains hollowed-out amber limbs.

OverviewEdit

Upon entering the cave, the Hero must face several enemies, including a Grummite Deathdealer near the entrance and other similar foes (e.g., Painbringer, Beater, and Torturer) wielding cleavers and bows. Several enemies carry madness ore with them. There are several unique species of plants that can be harvested: thorn hook, withering moon, root stalk and stashes of gnarl bark. The treasure chests differ in appearance from those in the main game but they still contain gold, lock picks, and other assorted loot.

There is a second level called Outer Encampment. The hollowed out amber stump is located on this level as well as a hollowed amber limb on the upper level. There is an Elder Gnarl Prisoner in this level. If released it, it will search out and try to kill Grummite warriors. This is true on other levels of this cave, as well. Enemies killed thusly still offer opportunities for loot.

The third level is called Channel. In the lair called Tunnels, check out the northernmost dead end, as it contains three stumps including one containing amber.
