looking at all the comments, i find it strange that so many people haven't passed the 9th~ grade, unless the american education is completely backwards. gold is one of the worst metals for forging any form of weopon, being far too heavy and much too soft. there is a reason it is used in jewelery. it is incredibly easy to work without needing a high heat, making complex designs a breeze. people in the stone age were creating complex shapes out of gold with a simple fire. any gold content would be detrimental outside corrosion resistance, wich can be easily recreated.
Aluminium Bronze is the most likely material. it's used in somewhat high quantities in naval designs, match the colour (the reason most people seem to add gold to their alloys for) and are lmost impervious to rust. once again, concerns could arise from a lack of good edge retention on blades, but it is a farmore viable option, especially considering that the dwarves don't want a straight fight; they want one where teir crossbows and ballistae can do the work.
