Bravil otherwise known as the Daughter of the Niben is one of the nine major cities located in the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil. Unlike Skingrad, Bravil is considered one of the dirtiest and the shadiest places in Cyrodiil.

Description

Geography

Bravil is located along the Green Road which is located in the Blackwood region and along the Imperial Run, more specifically in the Upper Niben. Bravil is also located near the border and the Elsweyr city of Rimmen. Bravil is also not far from the Imperial City. Bravil has one entrance located on the northern end of town, and it leads to the Red Ring Road. Bravil's town square is located past a couple of homes and has the Lucky Old Lady statue located in the middle. The Great Chapel of Mara is located west of the statue.

Bravil is separated by several islands in a pocket of the Niben River. The main island consists of everything mentioned above as well as many merchants and residents. The southern island contains a solitary lodge and a home. The eastern island is where Castle Bravil is located, and it looks over the Upper Niben and the Niben Bay.

Traditions

• The Lucky Old Lady Statue has created various myths surrounding it by the locals. One famous story was that the Lady was the illegitimate daughter of a prostitute in Bravil who was teased by other children and did not know who her father was. A priest of Stendarr talked with her and made her a child of Luck under Stendarr. She eventually became a barmaid and helped a vulgar bum who treated her terribly. He eventually left and returned as an Imperial Prince. He gave her piles of money, and she shared it with the people of Bravil. The statue was erected after her passing for her kind and generous personality. People come to the statue for luck.

Cuisine

• Bravil Melon Salad – Made with Melon and Garlic. A salad consisting of cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon, all grown along the Nibenay vineyards.
• Bravil's Best Beet Risotto – Made with Beets and Saltrice. A Bravilian classic among the Imperials, it is a rice dish broth with a creamy texture that will leave you savoring for more.

History

First Era

Before the Nibenay City of Bravil was established, the Heartland Elves settled in the general area of Bravil, and during this time, the settlement was flourishing, and it was much larger than modern-day Bravil. Bravil became the trading center of the Niben Bay in a similar way that Anvil and Whiterun have becoming trading capitals in their respective province. During the second century of the first era, the Alessian Slave Rebellion began when the Nedic woman named Alessia of Sardavar Leed rebelled against the Ayleids and sacked multiple cities along the way, this included the Bravilian settlement.

The Alessian Army advanced southwards to the Nibenay Valley and the Bravilian Area resulting in a siege lead by a man named Teo Bravillius Tasus, a centurion in the Alessian Ranks. The battle began in a span of four minutes, and through massive resistance, Tasus was able to break into the settlement, but his soldiers were dead, and the Ayleids repopulated the stronghold. A second invasion occurred, and underground tunnels were discovered underground. The third wave of Alessians came, and many soldiers watched the roads for more invaders. The Ayleids kept arriving and from different locations resulting in the soldiers scouring every corner of the town.

It was revealed that the Ayleids used Alteration to travel across the walls and go underwater to enter the city. Eventually, Tasus was able to uncover all of the hiding spots and finally defeat the Ayleids. Obscure southern Ayleids are said to be the first recorded users of Alteration Magic in Tamriel, before the Psijic Order of Artaeum discovered Mysticism.

Second Era

When Emperor Varen Aquilarios was tricked into triggered an explosion known as the Soulburst by Mannimarco, it broke the barrier protecting Nirn and Oblivion and allowed Molag Bal to invade Tamriel. Because Mannimarco summoned Molag Bal from the Imperial City, he began to lay his wrath upon Cyrodiil from the Colovian West to the Nibenay East. Cities such as Bruma, Chorrol, and Bravil were destroyed in the midst of the conquest, this event is known as the Planemeld. Molag Bal's daedra moved southwards from the Imperial City to the Nibenay Valley and the Green Road. Bravil was sacked by the daedric forces, and the Fourth Legion defended the city. By the time the Alliance War came to fruition with Aquilarios' disappearance, Bravil was inaccessible from the north, and its walls were crippled, leaving it neutral between the alliances.

The Gold Coast in Colovian West had seceded from the Imperial Province when Varen Aquilarios created his rebellion against Emperor Leovic of the Longhouse Emperors for allowing Daedric worship among the realms. This made the Gold Coast unaffected by both the Planemeld and the Alliance War, leaving it prospering in its wake. A Imperial Captain from the Imperial City named Captain Jena Apinia took a few noteworthy artifacts from the Great Chapel of Mara in an attempt to finance her efforts to retake the capital. The Eyes of the Queen, a spy network of assassins working for the First Aldmeri Dominion under Queen Ayrenn had tracked Apinia to the isolated ruins of Garlas Agea where she kept a wide assortment of goodies from Blackwood to Craglorn. A wanderer known as the Vestige was tasked by Razum-dar of the Eyes to kill Apinia and retrieve the items. After defeating her, the Eyes of the Queen brought the things back to Bravil. A similar event happened in Reaper's March and the Fort Sphinxmoth ruins.

Third Era

Main article: Bravil (Oblivion)

In 3E 433, Bravil prospered along with the other eight cities in Cyrodiil. The city was under the leadership of Count Regulus Terentius, a man of honor from a well-respected family dating back to the Planemeld with Flaccus Terentius. He was known by his people as being a champion in combat but a drunkard and a ne'er-do-well by his peers. His son is no worse as he supported drug trafficking in the city.

An event similar to Molag Bal's invasion into Cyrodiil known as the Oblivion Crisis came to fruition in the very late third era by Mehrunes Dagon. His invasion into Tamriel has sacked cities across Tamriel such as Ald'ruhn, Kvatch, and Northpoint. An Oblivion Gate opened up outside the main gate of Bruma, and it let out an army of Dremoras, Clannfears, and Scamps to attack the city. Luckily, the Blades of Cloud Ruler Temple led by Blademaster Jauffre and the Bruma Guard led by Burd managed to push the daedric army back into the Deadlands. However, the greater army returns, one similar to the one that destroyed Kvatch earlier. The Hero of Kvatch and Martin Septim lead the combined forces of the eight other cities in Cyrodiil and destroyed the Daedric Siege Crawler heading to Bruma.

Fourth Era

After the Oblivion Crisis, Bravil became an independent city-state. It waged war against Leyawiin, which had also become an independent city-state. Both countries fought each other until Titus Mede I subdued both nations.

The Third Aldmeri Dominion declared war against the Third Empire in an event known as the Great War. In 4E 171, the Dominion managed to attack key areas in the Mede Empire such as the Alik'r Desert and the Strid River. Lady Arannelya pushed southwards from Hammerfell and captured cities such as Anvil, Kvatch, and Skingrad while Lord Naarifin pushed northwards by capturing cities such as Leyawiin, Rimmen, and Bravil which were all taken by 4E 172. This left the Western front and the southern front of the Mede Empire completely damaged as the Imperial City became the last stronghold for the Imperial Legion. In a last ditch effort in ending the war, a new wave of Imperial soldiers lead by General Jonna and General Decianus fought a wave of Dominion soldiers at the Battle of the Red Ring resulting in Arannelya's retreat, Naarifin's defeat, and the White-Gold Concordat which lead to the war continuing in Hammerfell and the Skyrim Civil War rising due to the ban on Talos worship.

In 4E 187, Bravil and the Nibenay Valley has seen its fair share of Skooma trafficking coming from places such as Leyawiin, Alabaster, and Gideon. Bravil has two primary Skooma traffickers that have an undefined level of power in Bravil resulting in the two clashing with each other on multiple occasions. This eventually grew in 4E 188 when riots ensued in the city between the two Skooma Kingpins. Many of the wealthy people such as Alisanne Dupre hired sellswords to protect their estates but they eventually died in the midst of a fire. The Lucky Old Lady statue was also burnt down by the rioters. Bravil was in the shadow of its former self.
