The Broken Azura's Star is a quest item found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

IntroductionEdit

The Broken Azura's Star is found in Ilinalta's Deep on The Black Star quest.

BackgroundEdit

Azura's Star was broken during Malyn Varen's experiments to find a way to prolong his life; he believed that storing his soul inside the Daedric Artifact would prevent him from dying. Unfortunately for him, one of the properties of the Star is that black souls — the souls of sentient, mortal beings — cannot enter it. As such, he began a quest to manipulate the Star's properties, which resulted in the Black Star, which is so named because of the black crystal in the center and being darker than the normal Azura's Star in the presence of the invading impure soul within. He was ultimately successful, leaving a Broken Azura's Star behind within Ilinalta's Deep.

The QuestEdit

After acquiring the Broken Azura's Star, the Dragonborn can bring it to either Aranea Ienith or Nelacar, both of whom will task the Dragonborn with evicting Malyn Varen's soul from the artifact. With this completed, do one of the following to obtain the desired form of the Azura's Star:

• For a refillable Grand Soul Gem, take the Star to Aranea Irenth or Nelacar forcing the Dragonborn to enter the star by Azura and enter into combat with Malyn after a short dialogue. He will be accompanied by three Dremora during the fight. Kill Malyn first and Azura will recover the Dragonborn from the star assuminging survival of 15 seconds after the attack by the Dremora.

Azura's [Broken] Star has two forms:
1) Azura's Star. Trap non-humanoid souls only. This also includes "grand" non-humanoid souls.
2) Black Star. Trap humanoid souls. ALL humanoid souls are "grand quality" by default.
Azura's Star is obtained through giving the star back to Azura for repair.
Black Star is obtained by giving the star to the mage that offered to help you.
