The Butterfly in a Jar is a unique miscellaneous item in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Characteristics
It contains a live Monarch Butterfly that flies around inside a jar. There are other types of jars like this that can be found throughout Skyrim; each jar contains a different insect. It is one of many insects found living in Skyrim.
Location
The Butterfly in a Jar can be found in the Alchemist's Shack by the side of the road south of Ivarstead, west of the Rift Imperial Camp.

Trivia
- Unlike the Bee in a Jar and Dragonfly in a Jar, and like the Moth in a Jar and the Torchbug in a Jar, the Butterfly in a Jar does respawn.
- The inscription on the butterfly reads what looks like a "D," then an "I," and a backwards "D."
