Walkthrough[]

Upon completing To Nimalten, Hauting will inform the Vestige that an attempt has recently been made on Thane Fjora's life, by her housecarl. He will then tell you to go speak with the thane.

Head over to the Thane's Hall and speak with the Thane and the investigator, Aera Earth-Turner. While you are in this building, make sure to pick up the copy of Proper-Life: Three Chants from the eastern upstairs room. Speaking with the Thane will reveal that her housecarl was a member of the Worm Cult. She asks you to help her advisor Borodin in the inn and her court mage Golun Drenduf in the local mages guild.

Borodrin will have learned nothing useful in the tavern; in fact it appears he id publicly defiant of the thane. Golun will tell you that he needs to find a certain book from the thane's library before he can give more information. Once you have spoken to both, Aera will turn up and ask you about the investigation. Upon telling her what you know, she will ask you to investigate Betar Nes' House for clues. Head there and examine the clues. The relevant bit of information comes from a contract found behind on the ground behind the counter. It tasks Betar-Nes with killing the thane if she will not comply with the worm cult. Upon reading it, you will be attacked by a worm cult assasin. Kill him and return to the Thane's Hall.

Worm Cult Assasin: "You ask too many questions."

At the entrance of the hall, you will encounter Aera, who will tell you that Golun has been murdered in the library. Head there and investigate the body. You will find a glowing orb on his body. Using it will cause a projection of Golun's memories to appear. Speak with it, and it will tell you that the worm cult are using the spirits of the companions to empower Sinmur in the crypts beneath Nimalten. The entrance is in the fireplace by Golun's body.

Enter the crypts and you will immediately be ambushed by Borodin, who will take you to a deeper part of the dungeon. Proceed through the dungeon in order to kill Borodin. Along the way, Borodin will tell you that the Thane's life is in danger if she does not comply with the cult's demands. After you have killed him, head back out of the crypts and look for the thane. You will find a bunch of dead bodies on the floor of the hall, indicating a battle has taken place. The thane will be upstairs; speak to her and she will reveal that Aera was leading the cultists in the attack.

Thane's Housecarl: "I saw her head toward the water."

Head outside and speak with the wounded housecarl about Aera's whereabouts. He will tell you she headed to the water. Follow her there. There is a wounded guard there who says she went into the crypt. Confront her there, and she will tell you how the cult came to her while she was grieving and promised her she could see her dead husband and son again. She promises that she is done with the cult after this. You now have the choice to either arrest her, exile her or kill her.

Thane's Housecarl: "She went into the crypt …."

If you kill her, [?]

If you exile her, [?]

If you arrest, she will flee into the next room and you will be forced to kill her there. After all is said and done, head back to the Thane to finish the quest.
