- "Through reasons I'm still stying to discover, I ended up orphaned then taken in by a kindly Argonian family in Black Marsh. I hope one day to find out what happened to me... how I ended up like that."

Distant Memories is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in which the Dragonborn must search for clues that indicate the heritage and familial history of Brand-Shei, a merchant in Riften.
Objectives[]
- Locate a clue about Brand-Shei's past
- Return to Brand-Shei
Walkthrough[]
- Note: If the Thieves Guild quest "A Chance Arrangement" is completed, Brand-Shei will be in Riften Jail, although it is possible to save Brand-Shei from the jail time (See quest article for more info).
Brand-Shei can be found in Riften's marketplace, during the day time. A dialogue option is available: "You have an odd name for a Dunmer." Brand-Shei will explain how his parents fled Morrowind by boat, when he was just a child. But the boat was wrecked on the north-eastern coast of Skyrim, and his family all perished. He was subsequently adopted by an Argonian. He then asks the Dragonborn to help him recover his past.
The Dragonborn must travel to the Wreck of The Pride of Tel Vos. The wreck is located east of Winterhold and inside a chest, underwater, the Lymdrenn Telvanni's Journal may be found. The area is inhabited by a few bandits.
Once acquired, the Dragonborn may deliver the journal to Brand-Shei, in Riften, to complete the miscellaneous quest. By returning the journal, Brand-Shei will give the Dragonborn the key to his strongbox under his market desk. Inside are some gems, potions and a random novice leveled spellbook.

- PC 360 PS3 If the quest is not accepted and completed before successfully completing "A Chance Arrangement," the Dragonborn may not have to wait for Brand-Shei to get out of jail. As long as one can bribe/persuade their way past the guards at the jail, they can visit Brand-Shei in his cell and give him the journal there.
