As can be seen in the town's square, with the large statue of a dragon, symbol of the Imperial Legion, Ebonheart is the seat of Imperial rule on the island of Vvardenfell. The regional headquarters of the East Empire Company is also located here, Along with a garrison of the Imperial Legion, the Castle Ebonheart, which houses the Duke of Vvardenfell, Duke Vedam Dren.

The town is named after the city of Old Ebonheart on the mainland of Morrowind, across the Inner Sea. The castle is very well protected from attacks, as it is positioned on a little island.

To the northeast, close to the town the Underground Caves can be found.
