For other uses, see Molag Bal.

Molag Bal is the primary antagonist in The Elder Scrolls Online. He is the Daedric Prince of Domination and Enslavement,[1] also known as the Father of Vampires and the God of Brutality. He rules over the realm of Coldharbour.

Background[]

Molag Bal's main agent on Tamriel, the necromancer Lord Mannimarco, is working with the High Chancellor of the Elder Council, Abnur Tharn. Using Daedric machines called Dark Anchors, Molag Bal is attempting to weaken the barrier between the worlds of Oblivion and Nirn, threatening to merge Tamriel with his Oblivion plane of Coldharbour.

The main questline of The Elder Scrolls Online involves the player, known as the Vestige, getting their soul back from the Prince of Slaves himself, Molag Bal.

Interactions[]

Soul Shriven in Coldharbour[]

"Well done, mortals. But this is the realm of death itself. The armies of unlife are endless!"
―Molag Bal[src]

Molag Bal claims the soul of the Vestige before the quest. After the Coldharbour Sentinel is destroyed—blinding Molag Bal—the gateway to the Prophet will be sealed off by him, forcing the party to find another way around. After reaching the Anchor Mooring, a visage of Molag Bal appears before summoning a creature known as the Child of Bones.

Shadow of Sancre Tor[]

A Dark Anchor opens, and Molag Bal's hand enters from it. He grabs Mannimarco and takes him to Coldharbour.

Council of the Five Companions[]

A vision of Molag Bal torturing Mannimarco can be seen.

The Weight of Three Crowns[]

Attend the summit and devise a plan to attack Coldharbour.

God of Schemes[]

Defeat Molag Bal in Heart's Grief.

Conversations[]

The Weight of Three Crowns

Caldien: "He ... he has arrived! I can't ..." Vanus Galerion: "Caldien! What's happening?" Caldien: "Go! Get away from me! Run!" Molag Bal: "These are the great leaders of Tamriel? Pathetic. But how convenient to have them gathered together in one place, so I can crush them like insects." Vanus Galerion: "Stay back, Countess." Molag Bal: "The insects fight back! How amusing, and yet so very sad." "All of Nirn shall be mine!" Countess Hakruba: "Protect the leaders! Defeat Molag Bal's minions and close the unstable rifts!" Vanus Galerion: "I'll do what I can to keep any more rifts from opening. Countess, defend me!" Countess Hakruba: "My pleasure, Vanus. Who said the Guilds can't work together?"

The Final Assault

After destroying the second anchor:

Meridia: "We have to hurry! Molag Bal knows we're here!" Molag Bal: "I grow weary of your games, Meridia!" Meridia: "Go, Warriors of Light! These dark chains must be broken!" Molag Bal: "You cannot stop me, Meridia. This realm will be mine!"

Before the final battle:

Molag Bal: "Most curious. This light powers you somehow. Meridia … where are you hiding?" Meridia: "Merely fetching those who would stand against you." Molag Bal: "I tire of this game. Now you shall die!" Meridia: "Quickly, get behind my shield!" Molag Bal: "Did you think it would be that easy? My minions will tear you apart."

At the end of the final battle:

Meridia: "The light is ready! Quickly, release it!" Molag Bal: "No! You cannot do this! I cannot fail!"

God of Schemes

Molag Bal: "I congratulate you, little insect. Your sting is formidable. You have bested me and released a thousand times a thousand souls back into the Mundus. For the moment, your world is spared, but my grand scheme has only begun to unfold. Excellent. Your power shall prove useful in the coming conflicts. You've made a great and terrible enemy this day. Your world would have been better off if the Planemeld had succeeded. Had you bowed before me and accepted eternal servitude, I would have protected you. There are worse masters than I. Far worse." Meridia: "You are but a phantom here in my domain, Stone-Fire. The mortal prophecies of the Scrolls have been fulfilled. Leave this place and return to your pit!" Molag Bal: "You've made a great and terrible enemy this day. Your world would have been better off if the Planemeld had succeeded. Had you bowed before me and accepted eternal servitude, I would have protected you. There are worse masters than I. Far worse. Bah! Your meddling has already cost me too much, accursed creature of light and flame. This farce no longer amuses me."
