Elder Scrolls are powerful artifacts that appear in The Elder Scrolls Online.
Background[]
Prior to the Alliance War, six Elder Scrolls were held by the Cult of the Ancestor Moth in Cyrodiil at their temple. When the three alliances invaded Cyrodiil, each took two from the cult and built Elder Scroll Temples to house them.
Description[]
There are three offensive scrolls and three defensive scrolls. Each alliance has one of each, housed in an Elder Scroll temple of the same name as the scroll within.
- For the Aldmeri Dominion: The Elder Scroll of Altadoon (offensive) and the Elder Scroll of Mnem (defensive).
- For the Daggerfall Covenant: The Elder Scroll of Ni-Mohk (offensive) and the Elder Scroll of Alma Ruma (defensive).
- For the Ebonheart Pact: The Elder Scroll of Ghartok (offensive) and the Elder Scroll of Chim (defensive).
Usage[]
An Elder Scroll can be captured by picking it up from its pedestal and bringing it to one of the players' alliance's six home fortifications. While carrying it, the player is visible on the Cyrodiil map to all players of all alliances. Additionally, the player carrying the Scroll has a distinctive aura that can be seen from afar, and they cannot use certain abilities such as Bolt Escape, nor can they use a mount.
Once placed, the Elder Scroll will confer a bonus to the entire alliance. Offensive scrolls provide bonuses to weapon and spell damage, while defensive scrolls provide bonuses to armor and spell resistance. They also provide a bonus to hourly gained points on the Alliance War leaderboard on certain campaigns.
An Elder Scroll can only be picked up by a player if that type of scroll is still housed in their Scroll Temple. For example, a Covenant player could not pick up the scrolls of Mnem or Chim if their own alliance's defensive Scroll, Alma Ruma, is in enemy hands, but could pick up those of Altadoon or Ghartok if their offensive Scroll, Ni-Mohk, was still in its Temple.
Trivia[]
- As of Update 7, the Scrolls can only be picked up if its gate is unlocked, to prevent exploiting players from using abilities to jump over closed gates and capture the scrolls, and bypassing the sieging intended to be used.
- Mounts can not be accessed while the Vestige has an Elder Scroll.
