"It is said that Fang Lair was originally built by the Dwarves of Kragen. Legend has it that a Great Wyrm drove the Dwarves from their home in the Dragon's Teeth, and took the Lair for itself. I only wish I knew the exact location."
Ria Silmane[src]

The Fang Lair is a large mine-turned-dungeon in the northern region of Hammerfell, close to the Hammerfell-Skyrim border.

Description[]

The Fang Lair is an old Dwarven Mine, with two floors, and is very extensive.

The first floor is home to almost all of Fang Lair: a series of twisting and confusing hallways, passages, and underground mine-shafts labeled as "Mine Shaft A" through "Mine Shaft F." The first floor is where the most of the creatures inhabit. Skeletons seem to be the most common enemy, tied with Minotaurs and Orcs.

Other features include a raised ceremonial platform guarded by Ghouls and Skeletons and two treasure piles and a Spider Prison, where various, starved, Spiders remain. This latter area appears to have been constructed to guard the second floor.

The second floor is much smaller than the first, only containing a hallway with three Skeletons that leads to a small room that has an inner room inside of it. Open lava pits dot the floor of the outer room. Inside the inner room, there are two Hell Hounds guarding the first piece of the Staff of Chaos that the Eternal Champion must retrieve.

History[]

The Fang Lair was originally a mining fortress, apparently run by the Dwarves of Kragen. During the Dwarves' habitation, a Great Wyrm rose to the gates of Fang Lair, forcing the Dwarves to permanently retreat from the mine.[1]

By the time of the Third Era, when the Eternal Champion of Tamriel ventured into the mine to discover the first piece of the Staff of Chaos, the Wyrm apparently had apparently left the mine. In its place, many foul creatures to take its place within the mine's corridors and mine-shafts[2]

Trivia[]

  • While Dwarves appear to be atheist in religion, there appears to be many Daedric-esque shrines littered throughout the Fang Lair.
    • In the central-western end of the Fang Lair, there appears to be an ancient stone temple the Eternal Champion comments on. This structure's purpose is unknown, but holds the Daedric-esque shrines.
  • The Dwarves of Kragen may have come from the city of Kragenmoor.[source?]
