For other uses, see Reach.

The Western Reach is the easternmost region primarily within High Rock and partially in Hammerfell,[1] and contains the cities of Dragonstar, Farrun, Jehanna, and Evermore. The name of the hold is derived from the proximity of its western location in relation to Skyrim and in particular, The Reach.[2][3]

Location[]

The Western Reach is located in the farthest east side of High Rock, alongside the border of Skyrim and Hammerfell. The area is rather cut off from other holds and provinces, being separated by the Wrothgarian Mountains to the west, the Sea of Ghosts to the north, the Druadach Mountains to the East, and the Dragontail Mountains to the south, this has let the area develop its own unique culture.

Ephesus, Mournoth, Wrothgar, and Skyreach together make up the region.

History[]

The Western Reach was first established as a hold by the Nords during the Skyrim Conquests after the land had been annexed into the First Empire of the Nords. After the War of Succession and the collapse of the Nordic Empire, the Direnni Elves reconquered the Western Reach and slaughtered the Nords that remained in the hold. The Direnni Elves turned the Western Reach into an impregnable barrier to keep out all who wished to invade the Direnni Hegemony, because of this the Western Reach remained as one of the longest elven controlled holds in High Rock.[2] During the later years of the Interregnum, the Western Reach was one of Tiber Septim's most notable opponents during his conquests.[4] After the end of the Interregnum and the reformation of the Empire, the Western Reach was still plagued with large amounts of banditry and lawlessness, as well as attempted resistance to the Empire by the native Reachmen. The region was eventually calmed by the Provisional Governor, Titus Alorius.[2]

Inhabitants[]

The Western Reach was one of the first places where Nords and Elves bred. After years of inter-breeding between the Nords, Elves, and proto-Bretons a new race known as the Reachmen were born and eventually became the dominant race in the Western Reach.[2] At some unspecified point in history large numbers of Reachmen began to immigrate into The Reach and eventually became the majority of the population within that region as well.[5]
