The Master's Son is a quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The Fighters Guild has been hired to find Galtus Previa, and Viranus Donton needs a confidence boost. Modryn Oreyn asks the Hero to assist and bring back Viranus alive.
Walkthrough[]
Viranus Donton, the master's son, is the son of the Fighter's Guild Guildmaster. Viranus, though ostensibly a member of the Fighter's Guild, has been - according to Oreyn - "held back" by an overprotective mother, possibly due to the fact that Viranus's brother was killed in a Fighter's Guild raid. Modryn Oreyn asks the Hero to raise Viranus's confidence by leading him on a triumphant dungeon crawl in Nonwyll Cavern, located northwest of Chorrol. The expedition also involves discovering the fate of Galtus Previa, who has gone missing.

Upon receiving the quest follow the quest marker to the Donton household. Despite Oreyn's imprecations to the contrary, speaking to the Guildmaster carries no perceivable quest penalty. Get Viranus Donton to follow and head to Nonwyll Cavern.
The cavern is populated by rats, trolls, ogres and a minotaur. However, as Viranus is an essential character, there is no need to care about his continued survival, however he can't heal himself so after a few dead trolls he tends to get knocked unconscious often unless waiting for an hour for him to heal.
Galtus Previa dead
Eventually, the body of Galtus Previa can be found lying on the floor. A suspicious-looking Broken Shield lies next to him. Upon discovery of this gruesome scene return to Oreyn to find him grudgingly impressed, a welcome change from his previous demeanor.
He will offer an enchanted blade. Note that it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the Broken Shield is brought back, though he has a dialogue option that recognizes the shield if it's in the inventory.
Alternative Walkthrough[]
Unlike the Desolate Mine from a previous quest, the cave is not locked and doesn't require Donton to enter. After obtaining the quest from Oreyn, the Hero can travel to the cave alone and simply clear both zones at their own speed without Donton charging about. Then, go back to Chorrol to pick up Donton. Take him to the cave's back entrance which is near the 'o' in County Chorrol on the provincial map, lead him to Previa's body, get the quest update and return to Oreyn.

Trivia[]
- It is possible to visit this cave and find the body and shield before getting any quest from the Fighter's guild. In this case, the shield will be bound in inventory, and the quest will probably be resolved immediately once obtained.confirmation needed
