Frost Trolls are a sub-species of Trolls found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They behave identically to regular Trolls, however they are typically stronger and much more resiliant.

Frost Trolls can be found around any area that has a heavy amount of snow and constant blizzards, such as Winterhold, The Pale or Eastmarch. They are also especially fond of caves or dens, but can also be found within abandoned ruins like Labyrinthian. Early on in the game you will find a Frost Troll on your way up The Throat of the World, going to High Hrothgar.
BiologyEdit
Frost trolls are roughly man-shaped, with lengthy, muscular arms that end in claw-tipped fingers. The creature's large mouth is filled with jagged teeth. Without a doubt, the troll's most distinctive feature is the third eye nestled in the center of its forehead. A frost troll's hide is covered in a thick, shaggy white coat.[1]
BehaviourEdit
Frost Trolls are typically hostile to most creatures and rarely back down or flee when faced against a more powerful predetor.
They are incredibly fast and strong for their size. A troll prefers to pummel its prey into submission with powerful arm strikes and claw attacks[1]. Occasionally they will roar mid-battle or beat their fists on the ground.

Added by SpinalWhisper21The most effective way to kill Frost Trolls, like all trolls, is with Fire. Fire spells, especially high-powered ones like Firebolt or Fireball are most effective as they can be fired at long range, keeping one out of harm's way. If such spells are unavaliable then arrows and a fire-enchanted bow is highly recommended - the farther away one is from a troll, the better.
Fire-enchanted weapons are useful too, but require battle at close quarters, which may prove problematic. To counter that the player can use the Quick Reflexes block perk, as Frost Trolls almost always use power attacks and the time slowing effects can be used to dodge most of their attacks.

- They may carry an empty or full soul gem, which can be used for enchanting.

As levels go, you will have quite a bit of trouble dealing with Frost Trolls until you reach level 30, and even farther up if you have no Fire Spells or Fire-Enchanted weapons. Another effective strategy is to lead them into an unimportant town, as a Frost Troll attack can kill many people and cancel a few quests if you aren't careful. The town guards will distract it while you hack away at its health. This can be a nuisance, as Frost Trolls aren't found close to any towns, usually. Using paralyzing poisons via arrows is also quite effective, as it renders the troll helpless for a few precious seconds, leaving them open for power attacks. Weakness to Fire poisons, paired with fire-enchanted arrows or fire spells, can also leave a considerable dent in a Troll's health bar- however, poisons need to be especially potent to make a reasonable effect in the fight. One of the best ways for melee-oriented characters to take down trolls is with the Unrelenting Force shout, and shield bashing. Using the Unrelenting Force shout will buy you time to hack and slash away at their health. Using your shield to stagger them while your shout is recharging is also very helpful, and can present opportunities to get in an extra hit or two without being damaged too badly. If the player doesn't have a shield or is more skilled with blades, taking quick slashes at the Troll while dodging it's swinging claws can be an effective but risky strategy. Another good strategy for low leveled Nords is to use their Battle Cry, as the troll will run away, allowing time to heal, attack, or retreat. The shout Dismay also can work well against them as well as the Master Illusion spell Hysteria, which will have a similar effect. Another good strategy for those with high Illusion and Sneak skills is to cast Calm on the troll, then perform sneak attacks (only recommended with the Assassin's Blade perk, which adds 15x damage) then cast calm to sneak attack again. This will help to deal with the troll's regeneration. If the Dragonborn already has it, he/she should use th Fire Breath shout, as it can be used from a bit far distance and can give a great amount of damage You can use the Wabbajack or the Mehrune's Razor to kill it quickly, although the Mehrune's Razor might take some time to kill though. |
