- "Gideon, the black city of the followers of Seth, lies near the southern tip of the Imperial Run. A cold air that has nothing to do with the time of year seems to chill your bones as you enter..."
- ―Description in Arena[src]
Gideon is a major city located along the outer marshes of Black Marsh. The city is in close proximity to the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil similar to how Stormhold is close to Morrowind.

History
Early Years
Gideon was originally an Ayleid settlement. Just like other settlements beyond the Cyrodiilic Borders, Gideon was unharmed during the Alessian Slave Rebellion.[1]
First Era
By the time the Four Score War began, Gideon was an established settlement occupied by the Empire. It was used mainly to imprison those that needed to be kept far away from civilization. The most notable of its prisoners, Empress Tavia was imprisoned at Castle Giovesse at the beginning of 2920.[2] Well-Known Kothringi tribesmen by the name of Zuuk recruited members to join Emperor Reman Cyrodiil III's cause at The Sow and Vulture Tavern in the city.[3]
Second Era

When the Ebonheart Pact was formed in 2E 572, it consisted of the kingdoms of Eastern Skyrim, Morrowind, and the Argonian tribes of Shadowfen, Murkmire, and Thornmarsh. Thus making Gideon, Pact territory.[OOG 1]
During the Alliance War, a trading deal was created between the cities of Gideon and Leyawiin thus making the roads to Murkmire open to travelers.[OOG 2]
Third Era
- Main article: Gideon (Arena)
During the Imperial Simulacrum, the Eternal Champion had at one point visited the city in their quest for a piece of the Staff of Chaos. Similar to bandits in High Rock, the city of Gideon has had influence from the followers of Seth.[4]
Fourth Era
When the floating city of Umbriel appeared from the eastern seas, the city of Gideon was attacked by the undead army.[5]
Trivia
- When Arena was going to be a tournament-based game, Gideon's team was known as the Shadowblades.[OOG 3]
- Gideon's name may be inspired by that of the Biblical Judge & Prophet, Gideon.
