Join the Mages Guild is a quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. If the Hero would like to join the Mages Guild, they must not have any bounties on them and receive recommendations from all the guild hall leaders in the major cities.

Background

To join the Mages Guild, the Hero must not have any bounties on them. Speak to one of these guild hall leaders in each Mages Guild hall:

Walkthrough

To become an apprentice of the Mage's Guild and gain entry to the Arcane University, the Hero must receive recommendations from all the guild hall leaders in the major cities.

Sub-quests

Once all the recommendations have been received, head to the Arcane University in Imperial City and speak to Raminus Polus. He names the Hero Apprentice of the Mages' Guild and gives them the Robe of the Apprentice, which increases Willpower.

  • Update: After speaking to one of the guild heads about joining:

I have spoken with {guild head name} in {city}. She has told me that in order to join the Mages Guild, I must not be a wanted criminal.

  • Update: After accepting to join:

I have joined the Mages Guild. I must acquire recommendations from all of the local Guild Hall leaders in order to gain access to the Arcane University.

  • Update: After receiving all recommendations:

I have received recommendations form all of the local guild halls in Cyrodiil. I must now travel to the Arcane University, and speak with Raminus Polus.

  • Update: Once Raminus has been spoken to:

I have been given a recommendation from each ranking member in the local guild halls, and have been given access to the Arcane University.

  • Quest complete

Bugs

  •  PC   360   PS3   A quest marker indicating the position of the guild leader may remain, even after their recommendation quest has been completed. However, this will go away once all other recommendation quests have been completed.
