"Leyawiin is a bright and cheerful, prosperous town in the midst of Blackwood's swampy wildernesses, with wide, bright streets, large, comfortable houses, half-timbered or painted stucco, many of which are colorful and not too dirty or weather-worn."
Alessia Ottus[src]

Leyawiin is one of the nine major cities located in the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil. Leyawiin has a large population of Argonians and Khajiits because of its close proximity to Alabaster in Pelletine and Gideon in Murkmire.

Description

Geography

Leyawiin is the furthest city from the Imperial City since it is located in the Imperial Territory of Blackwood which was traditionally both the Khajiits and the Argonians. As a result, tension has arisen between the three races for the territory. Leyawiin is also located on the southern end of the Niben River otherwise known as the Imperial Run or the Trans-Niben. It is built on the western coast of the river and Castle Leyawiin is based on an island in the middle of the Trans-Niben.

Leyawiin has two entrances located on the western side and the eastern side. The west side is the main entrance since it is located on the Green Road which itself leads to Bravil and Water's Edge. The eastern gate leads to the Yellow Road which is a very long stretch of road with minor settlements such as Cropsford and Blankenmarch. Upon entering the western gate, you will be brought to the town square where the local inn and the great chapel are located. From there, it is a long street with many buildings such as the general goods store and the Fighters Guild. From the southwest is the Mages Guild as well as the Blackwood Company Hall. The main eastern town has many residential homes. East of the central town is the Castle Island and the east gate. Castle Island has a large courtyard where many citizens gather.

History

Second Era

Around 2E 576, Emperor Leovic of the Longhouse Emperors made controversial decrees during his rule that prompted many Imperial citizens to lose trust in their emperor. At this time, Leovic legalized Daedric worship in Cyrodiil which was the driving force of the Colovian Revolt lead by Varen Aquilarios of Chorrol. Aquilarios garnered support from the entirety of Colovia and northern Nibenay. The city of Leyawiin was under serious control from Leovic and Leyawiin was also prize sought out by Aquilarios. He ordered his prized general, Sai Sahan of the Dragonguard to capture Leyawiin with an army of Nibenese mercenaries that were double-agents that worked for Leovic.[1]

Upon entering Leyawiin, Sai Sahan was betrayed by the mercenaries and was enraged by this treason. Sai Sahan was up against the wall; he now had to fight Leovic's army and his militia. In the end, Sai Sahan was able to defeat both armies and liberate Leyawiin. Sahan's tale told by Aquilarios was described as a glorious battle, but it was much brutal then described. Sahan was surviving day to day by killing commanders and guardsmen until the Reachmen abandoned the settlement.[1]

In 2E 582, the cities of Gideon and Leyawiin made a trade agreement where the Dorsza Pass was open to Blackwood and Murkmire. With that being said, it can be implied that Leyawiin was not affected by the Alliance War since it was able to trade with Black Marsh.[OOG 1]

Third Era

Main article: Leyawiin (Oblivion)

Sometime before the Oblivion Crisis, the governments of Elsweyr and Cyrodiil had talked over a border arrangement between the two provinces. Elsweyr wanted to have western Blackwood to themselves which has traditionally been theirs, but Cyrodiil managed to keep the region. This brought controversy between the two provinces and a group known as the Renrijra Krin began to rise and perform terrorist attacks throughout County Leyawiin. It is because of the Renrijra; the Khajiits have a hard time in Leyawiin.[2]

In 3E 433, Leyawiin prospered along with the other eight cities in Cyrodiil. The city was under the leadership of Count Marius Caro and Countess Alessia Caro. Both are married for a political alliance between Leyawiin and Chorrol where Alessia's mother is the Countess of Chorrol. Both have a personal mission to unite the people of Blackwood and encourage Imperialization as seen in Gideon and Rimmen.[3]

An event similar to Molag Bal's invasion into Cyrodiil known as the Oblivion Crisis came to fruition in the very late third era by Mehrunes Dagon. His invasion into Tamriel had sacked cities across Tamriel such as Ald'ruhn, Kvatch, and Ska'vyn. An Oblivion Gate opened up outside the main gate of Bruma, and it let out an army of Dremoras, Clannfears, and Scamps to attack the city. Luckily, the Blades of Cloud Ruler Temple led by Blademaster Jauffre and the Bruma Guard led by Burd managed to push the daedric army back into the Deadlands. However, the greater army returned, one similar to the one that destroyed Kvatch earlier. The Hero of Kvatch and Martin Septim led the combined forces of the eight other cities in Cyrodiil including Chorrol and destroyed the Daedric Siege Crawler heading to Bruma.[4][5][6]

Fourth Era

In 4E 0, the Hero of Kvatch had planned to reform the Knights of the Nine in the West Weald and needed to gather the Relics of the Crusader in order to defeat the rising threat of Umaril the Unfeathered and his Aurorans. The Mace of Zenithar was last seen in the Chapel of Zenithar when the old Saint Kaladas sealed the Mace in the chapel. The Hero eventually found the mace and later reassembled the full suit of Armor to defeat Umaril in Garlas Malatar.[7]

The Third Aldmeri Dominion declared war against the Mede Empire in an event known as the Great War. In 4E 171, the Dominion managed to attack key areas in the Mede Empire such as the Alik'r Desert and the Strid River. Lady Arannelya pushed southwards from Hammerfell and captured cities such as Anvil, Kvatch, and Skingrad while Lord Naarifin pushed northwards by capturing cities such as Leyawiin, Rimmen, and Bravil which were all taken by 4E 172. This left the Western front and the southern front of the Mede Empire completely damaged as the Imperial City became the last stronghold for the Imperial Legion. In a last ditch effort in ending the war, a new wave of Imperial soldiers lead by General Jonna and General Decianus fought a wave of Dominion soldiers at the Battle of the Red Ring resulting in Arannelya's retreat, Naarifin's defeat, and the White-Gold Concordat which lead to the war continuing in Hammerfell and the Skyrim Civil War rising due to the ban on Talos worship.[8]
