- "The Mace of Molag Bal! I give you its true power, mortal. When your enemies lie broken and bloody before you, know that I will be watching."
- ―Molag Bal[src]
The Mace of Molag Bal is a Daedric artifact of Lord Molag Bal. Enchanted to drain 25 Magicka and Stamina per successful strike, this Ebony mace also casts Soul Trap on the target if they die within 3 seconds of being hit. With the Arcane Blacksmith perk unlocked, Ebony Ingots can be used to upgrade the mace.

Acquisition
Edit
It is initially called the Rusted Mace and made to look like an offering, placed at Molag Bal's alter. The Mace of Molag Bal is given to the Dragonborn after completing the Daedric quest, "House of Horrors".
Usefulness
Edit
The weight and swing speed of the Mace of Molag Bal make it well-suited for various character builds. Because the enchantments on this mace fall under the Destruction school of magic, perks unlocked under that school affect the mace.
When combined with the Black Star, the mace can capture souls more effectively. These souls can then be used to recharge the mace's enchantments.
One disadvantage to this weapon is that it takes up almost a third of the screen when equipped in first person, limiting visibility.
Trivia
Edit
- This item is not affected by the Daedric Smithing perk.
- It is possible that a NPC will shout "Get that cursed mace away from me!" when it is equipped. There is also the chance a guard might say "That mace... Get it away from me, get it away.
- The mace itself is not a version of the Daedric Mace. Its being of Daedric origin refers not to the material it is made from, but rather the fact that it was constructed by a Daedric Prince.
Bugs
Edit
- The Mace will occasionally stay equipped when a player enters werewolf form or stay stuck in the werewolf's body for a few seconds.
- It is possible to keep the Rusty Mace from the quest by leaving the house after obtaining it and placing it on a weapon plaque. Then, returning to the house, kill the priest, and obtain the Mace of Molag Bal. Finally, return to your house and take the Rusty Mace from the weapon plaque.
- Sometimes, even with the correct smithing skills, it will not upgrade to legendary.
