Mauloch, "Mountain Fart",[1] refers to the Daedric Prince[2] Malacath,[3] who is traditionally worshipped as a patron deity by the Orsimer,[4] but also by Nords.[1][5]

Background

Mauloch frequently engaged in hostilities with the Nords of Skyrim. Eventually, however, he was defeated at the Battle of Dragon Wall in 1E 660 and fled. According to legend, his intense anger as a result of this "was said to fill the sky with his sulphurous hatred, later called the 'Year of Winter in Summer,'"[5] referring to the eruption of Red Mountain in Morrowind, which occurred around the same time in 1E 668.[6]

According to the Myth of Mauloch, the Orsimer had been the "pariah" of Tamriel for two hundred years, before the dream of Orsinium became a reality.[4]

Trivia

  • Iron statues of Orsimer heroes such as Mauloch "grace" the city of Nova Orsinium.[4]
