Oldgate or Old Gate is a fortified gate located in between the region of Stormhaven and Rivenspire, more so on the latter's side. Oldgate is the home of the Oldgate Lancers, one of the most proficient militias in the province of High Rock.

DescriptionEdit

GeographyEdit

Oldgate is located on the southernmost edge of Rivenspire, as it safeguards the region from the region of Stormhaven and vice versa. Oldgate is exactly what it is called, it is a fortified gate with twin towers on each side of the gate. The courtyard is rather large, befitting for the merchants stationed in the area. The highest floor has areas of rest where the soldiers have established a cooking fire.

HistoryEdit

Second EraEdit

Main article: Oldgate (Online)

The Oldgate fortress has always been under the occupation of the Kingdom of Shornhelm, and generally the Kingdom of Rivenspire. When King Ranser of Shornhelm rebelled against High King Emeric, Oldgate and the Oldgate Lancers fought alongside the Rivenspire Houses and King Ranser. The Oldgate Lancers were present at the Siege of Wayrest and attacked the House Cumberland Guard. Unfortunately, the Siege did not end in Ranser's favor and he was forced into Rivenspire and Markwasten Moor, where he would ultimately be defeated by the Daggerfall Covenant. Oldgate may have been a line of defense after the Siege of Wayrest, but based on events later, Oldgate did not hold the Covenant back.[1]

Third EraEdit

During the Imperial Simulacrum from 3E 389 to 3E 399, Emperor Uriel Septim VII was imprisoned along with Talin Warhaft in the Deadlands by Jagar Tharn. Tharn planned for months to capture the throne, and he was able to achieve so in the span of ten years. Tharn had a powerful weapon called the Staff of Chaos, and he split it into nine pieces and scattered them across Tamriel, the staff was the only thing keeping Uriel Septim and Warhaft in Oblivion. A warrior escaped his clutches and traveled all corners of Tamriel to retrieve the missing pieces. The hero was known as the Eternal Champion, and he assembled the staff and defeated Jagar Tharn at the Imperial Palace. The Eternal Champion had at one point visited the town of Old Gate in their quest to recover the pieces.[2]
