While travelling, the Dragonborn may come across an Orc who stands near the corpses of two sabre cats. When spoken to, he tells the Dragonborn he is waiting for a "good death."
He elaborates by saying that he has become too old to be a chief, too old to marry, and wants to die while he can still call himself a proper man, and that he wants to die in battle to please his god, the Daedric prince Malacath.
The Dragonborn can then decide to leave him alone or help him. Agreeing to help will cause him to become hostile.
- Unlike most Random Encounters, the Old Orc does not "reset" and remains at the place where he first spawned for the rest of the game. Also, his corpse does not disappear over time.
- It is possible to encounter this character on more than one occassion.
- The Old Orc bears some similarities to Umbra, the Orc in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
- The Old Orc is slightly tougher than a Bandit Outlaw, and can potentially be a challenging fight for a low-level player.
