Ostarand was an Ayleid hero who set out to hide the Prismatic Crystal. He recounted his experience in his diary.

After the Delodiil victory over Abagarlas, Endarre led a group of five Ayleid heroes: Curano, Lanath, Ostarand and Valasha on a quest to hide the Prismatic Crystal. Valasha, a Meridian priestess, was Ostarand's lover. They traveled to the Dwarven ruin of Mzeneldt in an attempt to hide the crystal. Curano, a Meridian priestess, was killed by Animunculi. The other four continued on. Lanath gave her life defending against the constructs so that the remaining three could continue the journey. Valasha, having been mortally wounded, decided to give her life to relit the crystal, leaving only Ostarand and Endarre. This left Ostarand silent and depressed for the remainder of the journery.

Following that, they hit a dead end as the following set of doors refused to open. He and Endarre later figured out that the red crystals contained within the animunculi could power the crystals to open the doors. The constructs later broke through, and Endarre sacrificed his life defending against the animunculi so that Ostarand could hide the crystal in the deepest part of the ruins. Ostarand managed to get there and hide the Ayleid Tome in a chest, but was killed by a Dwarven Centurion who later took the crystal and hid it within itself.

The five later remained as ghosts reenacting the quest the accomplished in the ruins.
