The Oxygen Meter is a visual counter in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to display the length of time that the player can safely stay underwater. When the timer runs out the player will begin to rapidly lose health.
In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim the oxygen meter doesn't have a visual timer, but the player will begin to rapidly lose health after 20 seconds underwater.
- Argonians have a natural ability to stay underwater indefinitely.
- It's possible to stay underwater for longer periods by using spells, potions or enchantments.
- Additionally, the dragon priest mask Volsung allows for indefinite time underwater for non-Argonian characters.
- Contrary to popular belief, stamina does not affect the time the player can stay underwater.
