Nordic Pillar Puzzles appear in many of the crypts, burial ruins, and cairns found throughout Skyrim. They usually consist of three or four pillars, each with one of three symbols on each of their three facets; these symbols must be correctly aligned with the arrow located on the floorplate surrounding each pillar, generally in order to open an otherwise impassable door (or activate a switch that will unlock that door). The clues to proper alignment are often nearby, in some cases right behind each pillar, but occasionally, the clues are in nearby books.
