Preemptive Strike is a quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

Background[]

Gunmar sends the Dragonborn to kill a Master Vampire at a radiant location. The vampire must be killed before it turns its allies into vampires to increase their threat to Skyrim. Upon returning to Gunmar at Fort Dawnguard, the Dragonborn receives a leveled enchanted apparel item as a quest reward for eliminating a threat before it could appear.

Trivia[]

  • This radiant quest is identical to the vampire side quest "Protecting the Bloodline."
  • When the quest takes place in a radiant location belonging to the Silver Hand, the vampire will immediately be attacked. If the vampire dies in the ensuing battle, the quest will be flagged as completed.
  • There is a chance that the vampire may be located in Morvunskar, which is also the final destination of the quest "A Night to Remember." Should both of them be active when the Dragonborn heads to the dungeon, Sanguine will be present, and he will also attack the vampire.
  • If Dragonborn is installed, some radiant locations may be on Solstheim.

  • Sometimes the quest mark will not appear (even if you are in Solstheim) and the vampire that needs to be killed isn't at the dungeon.
    • Console command setstage DLC1RH03 100 should skip the stage with killing vampire.
