"Before landing in Daggerfall, a sudden storm capsized the ship. I barely made it into this cave."
―Journal Entry[src]

Privateer's Hold is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. After the player arrives at the dungeon, a brief tutorial on game mechanics is given if the tutorial prompt is accepted. Based upon the choices made in character creation, how the background questions were answered, certain classes and items are received.

"You wake and look around the room. Some hours ago, you were in a boat, en route to Daggerfall, when a storm of supernatural strength boiled over the lilac Bay like a malefic creature. Your boat was destroyed, but you managed to swim through the churning water to a promontory rock. There you found a cave and excaped the fury of the storm. You had only just lit a small fire when a mudslide sealed you within. Your fear of being buried alive calmed when you saw the corridor leading out of the cavern. Perhaps there is a way out of this cave after all."
―Popup at the Begaining of the Quest[src]

The Emperor has tasked the Hero of Daggerfall with putting the Shade of King Lysandus to rest. While the Hero is traveling to Daggerfall on a ship, a storm came and the Hero had to abandon the ship, swimming into a nearby cave. As the Hero made a fire, a mudslide blocked the exit.. However, the Hero found a passage inside the cave.

When you first start the tutorial, you will be facing a wall. Turn around (Right and Left Arrows), and walk (Up Arrow) towards the corridor in the back. From there, take a turn to the left. Open the door by clicking it, then draw your weapon and kill the mouse. There should be a treasure chest containing some gold as well as random loot in the room. To the left of the door there should be a stairway that the Hero must go up. Follow the corridor. Be careful to avoid the first door on the right, as there will be an Imp inside which may likely not be able to be attacked, which will easily kill the Hero. Continue passing the doors, and the Hero will come up to a stairway, which should be walked up. Taking a right, go inside and kill the Archer. After killing the archer, it is advised that the player rests, then heads out the door to the right of the one they entered. This should bring the player to the main chamber.

There should be a bat that will approach the player. After killing the bat, the Hero has two options: to either go up to the top of the stairway and kill the Skeleton Warrior, then jump onto the throne and hit a lever which will bring to the ledge above the main chamberPlease see the next paragraph if you went up to the throne, or go to the left of the stairway to the top of the room, there should be a hidden door between the two torches. Open the door, and, after killing the bat, go straight. The Hero will be now be in a stone tunnel. Going down the tunnel, there will be two doors to the right. Do not go near these doors, as there are two archers behind the doors that will proceed to ambush the player. Continuing down the tunnel, the Hero will hit a flight of stairs. A door will be located to the right at the top of the stairs.

The door will open up to a ledge at the top of the main chamber. Proceed by going to the left, and killing the rat at the slope that goes upwards, just around the corner. From there, go into the first door on the right, and the Hero can see the exit to the dungeon on the right wall, as well as a Giant Bat and a Rat towards the left, and an Imp at the back. It is possible to either kill them, then exit, or run straight to the exit.

From there, the Hero needs to fast travel from the Privateer's Hold and go to the city of Daggerfall. Once the Hero explores the city for a bit, they will get a letter, which will start the next quest on the main questline.

I am on a mission from the emperor to investigate the shade of King Lusandus. His spirit has been haunting the city of Daggerfall. The emperor himself has charged me with the duty of laying his ghost to rest.

There is also the minor matter of a letter he sent to the Queen of Daggerfall. If I should find out what happened to the letter, he would be most appreciative.

Before landing in Daggerfall, a sudden storm capsized the ship. I barely made it into this cave.

  • It is highly advised that the Hero rests, as well as saves, after every fight, as it is very easy to get killed by any enemy.
