  7. Talk to Verandis Ravenwatch

Walkthrough[]

After completing "The Liberation of Northpoint," Baron Alard Dorell will tell you to head for the Shrouded Pass and speak with Count Verandis Ravenwatch there to begin your assault on The Doomcrag.

Head to the northwest of Rivenspire, by the Staging Grounds Wayshrine, and talk to Count Verandis there. He will tell you that Baron Wylon Montclair is holed up here at The Doomcrag, and has activated ancient Ayleid defense mechanisms. He will tell you that there are two portal chambers that will lead to the top of the Doomcrag, and will ask you to clear the way to the first one so that the troops may follow.

Head south into the Doomcrag. As you follow the path, you will come across Countess Eselde Tamrith and Baron Alard Dorell having a discussion about whether to take a potentially unsafe shortcut. Just before you reach them however, you may spot a skyshard to your right, so make sure to take that with you. North of the skyshard is a copy of the lorebook The Horse-Folk of Silverhoof, so be sure to pick that up as well. Either way, make your choice between Countess Tamrith's shortcut and the main path. If you pick the main path, [?]. If you pick the shortcut through Varlasel, you will run into Skordo the Knife there. He will help you fend off the enemies here, including the powerful Skeletal Guardian that awaits in the next room. After defeating the guardian, Skordo will stay behind to guard your rear.

Continue through the ruins and you will find yourself in a chamber with a tile switch and a number of floor tiles with markings on them. The road ahead will be blocked by a barrier. Countess Tamrith will come up behind you once you enter this chamber. The moment you press the button, you will see ayleid spirits walking up to and activating some of the tiles; these are the tiles you must press to proceed. You need to press the tiles with the signs of The Ritual, The Warrior, The Mage, The Tower and The Shadow, in that order. This will dispel the barrier and allow you to proceed forward.

Once you are back outside, the portal chamber will be to your north, down the stairs. Head in and press the button, and a portal to the base camp will appear. Count Verandis will appear from the portal along with some soldiers; speak with him and he will tell you to head to the second portal chamber, which should be on the third level of the ruins. Head outside and proceed westward, into the Chamber of the Stone Guardian. There is another riddle here; the four statues in this room bear descriptions referring to each of the four seasons. Larelleis refers to spring, Wenayasille refers to summer, Morilatta refers to autumn and Angalayond refers to winter. You do not have to interpret these for yourself; Verandis will also be here, and will tell you which season is being referred to after reading the inscription. After you have examined these, speak with the Stone Guardian by the door. She will present you with a series of riddles, to which you must answer the name of one of the statues.

The first riddle goes as follows:

Tell me, what is the time of dawning? Of birth and nourishing rain?

To this first riddle, the answer is Larelleis, spring. The second riddle is as follows:

A time of light and joy and abundant growth. Long, hot days give way to short, hot nights.

The answer here is Wenayasille, summer. The third riddle goes like this:

An end comes to all things. And like dusk comes before the night, this cycle comes before the gray of iron death.

The answer to this is Morilatta, autumn. Finally, the last riddle goes like this:

Tell me true, if you really wish to pass. What is the season of iron gray? What is the cycle in which the world finally dies, at least for a time?

The answer here is Angalayond, winter. After answering these riddles, the door ahead will open.

Head through the door and proceed along the path. You will find the portal switch in the final room. Baron Dorell will appear from the portal once you press the button; speak with him and he will tell you that the battle below is going well, and that you should speak with Count Ravenwatch about how to proceed. Before you speak with Verandis, be sure to pick up the copy of the lorebook Darkest Darkness from among the boxes to his left.

Speaking with Verandis will finish this quest and start the next one, "The Lightless Remnant."
