For other uses, see Glass.

Raw Glass is an Alchemy ingredient that can be found in Vvardenfell. Speaking to either Tendris Vedran or Anarenen, both Alchemists, will cause the Nerevarine to learn the following:

Raw glass is similar to raw ebony, but less well-known. Ebony is jet black, while glass is a milky translucent green. Less durable, but much lighter and more flexible than ebony, glass is used primarily to make the distinctive, elegant glass armors and weapons of High Elven design.

Trivia

  • This material has often been mistaken for blue obsidian (or "volcanic glass") due to the use of the phrase "volcanic glass." The phrase instead refers to the material being mined in volcanoes and having the appearance of glass, and in-game screenshots show their crystal structure to be more akin to malachite, which is stated as the principle material used for Glass armor and weapons during The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.[1] Malachite was also used as an alchemical ingredient in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. The description of raw glass being "milky translucent green" further supports this as blue obsidian is almost always clear[2] while malachite is rarely truly transparent.[3]
