Redguards are a race of humans that hail from the lost continent of Yokuda and now reside primarily in the province of Hammerfell. Their name is derived from the corruption of the term "Ra Gada" in their native Yokudan language, which (translated loosely) means, "warrior wave". Due to their swift and decisive conquering of the province of Hammerfell, the Redguards are renowned as arguably the most versatile and naturally gifted warriors in all of Tamriel. Likewise, because of their versatility and fierce independence, they are most effective as scouts and in small units as opposed to being deployed as rank and file soldiers. [1][2]

PhysiologyEdit

The Redguard's innate agility and high level of endurance allows them to excel in any activity that demands sustained effort, most notably combat. This attribute most certainly contributes to the Redguards being renowned as arguably the most efficient and versatile warriors in all of Tamriel. They are likewise blessed with a very hardy constitution that allows them to resist poison and disease.

BiologyEdit

The skin tones of Redguards vary from light brown to nearly black in hue. Along with Nords and Orcs, Redguards are more muscular than other races but are of average height.

CultureEdit

Redguard apparel, tribal, and city structures are largely similar to those of the Berbers or Arabians, and as a result, while Redguards often exhibit the facial features and skin tones of Sub-Saharan Africans, they appear to be culturally based on North Africans and Arabs. In Skyrim, the visual appearance of Redguards has gotten increasingly more Arabic as well. The main religion of Hammerfell is a mix between ancestor worship and faith in the traditional Yokudan pantheon.[3]

According to Trayvond the Redguard, in Hammerfell, they "Don't much like spellcasters, because Wizards steal souls and tamper with minds. If you use magic, you're weak or wicked."[4] They particularly hate Conjuration, relating it to Necromancy and Mysticism because it tampers with the mind. However, he does mention that he and other Redguards are fond of Destruction spells which suits their culture well.

Although Redguards are human, their only relation to the other humans is from the wandering Ehlnofey because of their origin in Yokuda.[3]
