Redguards are a race of humans that hail from the province of Hammerfell. They are known to be extremely quick and agile, and are excellent in all arts concerning blade and shield. They are descended from a long line of warriors and mystic seers.

Physiology
Edit
Skilled at the art of war, the dark-skinned natives of arid Hammerfell are natural athletes that excel at swordplay and anything demanding strength and endurance. Prideful and fierce, both on the battlefield and in political circles, the Redguards prefer adventuring and displays of heroism as opposite to blind military instruction. Life in the desert has hardened them to the effects of the elements and they possess an in-born resilience and fortitude.[1][2]
Biology
Edit
The skin tones of Redguards vary from light brown to nearly black in hue. Along with Nords, Redguards are typically more muscular than other human races most likely due to their warrior culture and genetics passed down from the long line of ancestral Redguard warriors. Their facial features closely resemble sub-saharan Africans along with their mostly wiry hair. Braiding of the hair is also extremely common along with tattoos and war paint both on the body and face.
Culture
Edit
Redguard apparel, tribal, and city structures are largely similar to those of the Berbers or Arabians, and as a result, while Redgaurds often exhibit the facial features and skin tones of Sub-Saharan Africans, they appear to be culturally based on North Africans and Arabs. The main religion of Hammerfell is a mix between ancestor worship and faith in the traditional Yokudan pantheon.[3] Much of their religious tradition stems from the Nedes.[3]
According to Trayvond the Redguard, in Hammerfell, they "Don't much like spellcasters, because Wizards steal souls and tamper with minds. If you use magic, you're weak or wicked."[4] They particularly hate Conjuration, relating it to Necromancy and Mysticism because it tampers with the mind. However, he does mention that he and other Redguards are fond of Destruction spells which suits their culture well.
Although Redguards are human, they do not share the same blood as Nords, Bretons, and Imperials because of their origin in Yokuda.[3]
