All quest articles need their own pages. After all, how are people supposed to beat them on their own? This type of article is pretty simple: give the meat and potatoes of the quest.
Contents |
Naming
Quests, on the wiki, need the name given to them in-game. This is usually found in the quest journal in the character menu. Specific objectives of a quest should not be given their own article. See "headers" below, for how this situation is handled. Additionally, quests that possess the same name as another article, should be given a parenthetical word at the end of it. For instance, Necromancer's Moon is both a book and quest, so the quest Necromancer's Moon should be named Necromancer's Moon (Quest). Always capitalize the parenthetical word. In addition to this, quests of the same name may appear across games, for instance No Stone Unturned appears in both Oblivion and Skyrim. For this, use the game title as the disambiguating parenthetical note, as such No Stone Unturned (Oblivion) and No Stone Unturned (Skyrim). See this guide on disambiguations for more information.
Templates
Infoboxes
Each game has its own infobox especially for quests. The infobox belongs at the very top of each page. Most of them include the first line of the article as well, detailing the page name and game in which it appears. These include:
- MorrowindQuests - for Morrowind
- BloodmoonQuests - for Bloodmoon
- TribunalQuests - for Tribunal
- OblivionQuests - for Oblivion
- SkyrimQuests - for Skyrim
- ShiveringIslesQuests - for the Shivering Isles
- DawnguardQuests - for Dawnguard
- DragonbornQuests - for Dragonborn
Oblivion
- Main Quest Oblivion - for the Main Quests in Oblivion.
- Fighters Guild Quests Oblivion - for the Fighters Guild quests in Oblivion.
- Mages Guild Quests Oblivion - for the Mages Guild quests in Oblivion.
- Thieves Guild Quests Oblivion - for the Thieves Guild quests in Oblivion.
- - for the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion.
Skyrim
- Main Quest Skyrim - for the Main Quests in Skyrim.
- Companions Quests - for the Companions Quests in Skyrim.
- College of Winterhold Quests - for The College of Winterhold Quests in Skyrim.
- Thieves Guild Quests Skyrim - for Thieves Guild Quests in Skyrim
- Daedric Quests Skyrim - for Daedric Quests in Skyrim.
- Dark Brotherhood Quest Skyrim - for the Dark Brotherhood quests in Skyrim.
Template usage
Infoboxes
Infoboxes belong at the very top of the page. It allows editors to add information such as images, quest givers, rewards, reputation gain, prerequisites, the next quest in succession etc. Adding an infobox to an article is as easy as adding the script from the templates documentation. Here is an example of how an infobox.
should be coded when added to an article in source mode.

This is for an Oblivion quest infobox. If some of the "parameters" or lines are left blank, they may not appear in the published version of the article. However, they will still appear when another editor clicks "Scribe" to change the page. This is helpful for hiding messy coding, but leaving the option of expansion open to new authors. If you are unsure of which infobox is appropriate or one needs to be created for the article you're working on, add Infobox needed to the top of the page. This adds the page to a list of other pages needing infoboxes.
Navigation templates are tables that hold a series of links related to the topic of the article in which they're placed. This helps readers quickly find pages on a similar subject matter. This "nav" template is for the College of Winterhold questline:
College of Winterhold Quests
It belongs at the very foot of the article.
Headers
Headers are what help sort the information of the article. They are needed to organize the information into cohesive and comprehensive sections. Readers can also find the information in the article more easily, because a table of contents will be generated if four or more headers are used. Always capitalize the first word and any proper nouns that appear. Otherwise, do not capitalize all the words in the header. Quest articles should follow this general guideline, in regards to headers:
infobox
Background
In Skyrim, for instance, there is a blurb that appears in the journal when a quest is obtained. List that here, in italics or with the quote template. If neither of these are suitable, give a brief summary of the quest in your own words. Be wary of perspective.
Objectives
This may not be needed for each page, but it may be used when several clear objects need to be detailed. Format this with bullet points, like so,
*Kill person
*Find stolen amulet
*Return to employer
*???
*Profit
Alternatively, this can be substituted for ===General walkthrough=== with the header below, being the overarching header. (with two equal signs instead of three.)
Walkthrough
From the very moment the quest is obtained, until the very moment it's complete, write about it here. Be extremely mindful not to use "you" or "I" in this section. This is not a forum. It's an encyclopedia. Additionally, if this section becomes exceptionally lengthy, use subheaders
with meaningful names. For example,
<!--below are option-->
Find Aeri
Alftand - Electronic Cathedral
Part I
Part II
Dance to dubstep on the corpse of your foe!
<!---above are optional-->
Journal entries
Each time the journal updates, it gives specific clues that help players advance in that leg of
the quest. List them here. The majority of it should be italicized. See A Mage's Staff.
Gallery
<gallery>
Imagename.png|caption
Imagename.png|
</gallery>
Be extremely selective about how many images you add to an article. Most of them that would end up in a gallery could be wormed into the walkthrough (and would be more helpful that way!). If the walkthrough is fairly short, consider putting photos here.
Trivia
Again, use this sparingly, and only for documented or widely believed cultural references. Just because an armor pieces on the bookshelf of the Queen of Oblivion looks like a breastplate used in the Lord of the Rings for one scene does not mean that it is, and should NOT be added. Speculated trivia belongs on the article's talk page.
Bugs
Once more, use this extremely sparingly. Before adding a bug to a page, post a comment about it on the talk page. Verify with other players that the bug exists for them as well. Try to recreate the bug. If multiple people can find and replicate the bug, it is worth mentioning, otherwise DO NOT add it the page.
navigation template

*Note: Most of the appropriate categories are already added to the article via the infobox template. The only categories that need to be added are for the location type. For example, or
Example
The above guide will render this into the article:
| Style and formatting/Quests | |
|---|---|
| Quest Giver | Viarmo |
| Location | Bards College Dead Man's Respite Blue Palace |
| Reward | Leveled Bards College membership |
| Faction | Bards College |
