Shad Astula is located within the region of Deshaan in Morrowind, headed by Arch-Mage Valeyn during the Second Era. Shad Astula is the home of the most important Academy of Magic in Morrowind and has produced the best councilors, advisors and leaders of the Dunmer people. Since the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, it has allowed other member races of the Pact to enroll in the Academy. Aspirants to the prestigious Academy are closely watched for months before being sent an invitation, and are then sent to Mournhold to be ferried across the river.
It is noted that the Academy of Magic is not affiliated with the Mages Guild, and is exclusive to the Ebonheart Pact, accepting only the best mages from Skyrim, Morrowind, and Black Marsh.[1]
