History

First Era

The City of Shornhelm was occupied by House Dorell in the 24th Century of the first era.[2]

Dame Marcelle Stenric was a great warrior and a strong heroine from the city of Shornhelm under House Dorell. One time, a terrible troll threatened to attack Shornhelm, and Dame Marcelle took up the challenge. With a mighty swing, Marcelle was able to defeat the troll and save Shornhelm.[3]

One of her biggest feats was saving Lord Aaric Dorell's son, Lanciot Dorell from House Tamrith, loyal brigands from the notorious thief group known as the Hammers of Umbrage who terrorize travelers all across Rivenspire. After learning of Lanciot's fate, Marcelle tracked the brigands to a tower near Crestshade and defeated the Hammers of Umbrage along with their leader, Rhyne Succoth. Sometime later, she passed away and was buried at Tribulation Crypt.[3]

During the Thrassian Plague, nobles and merchants sought refuge in the Fevered Mews in northern Shornhelm. After the plague had subdued, the citizens of the mews found Shornhelm practically empty.[4]

Second Era

Main article: Shornhelm (Online)

Shornhelm was ruled by King Hurlbert from 2E 522 to 2E 546 along with the North. During his lifetime, he was apart of House Branquette and married Countess Iphilia of House Montclair. When he died, Prince Phylgeon (his legitimate son) took up the throne at the age of fourteen, championed by House Montclair. However, House Branquette and House Tamrith supported his older step-brother Prince Ranser, who was born out of wedlock form a weak Tamrith cousin.[1]

Advisers of Phylgeon contended that the legitimate son was the proper heir to the throne. King Phylgeon then proclaimed that "Howse Mount Clayre" was the royal house of Sharnhelm. When the Council of the North gathered to discuss the current situation, Ranser brought in a long lost Direnni decree that named House Branquette their "Breton Royal Delegates".[1]

In 2E 541, after the defeat of Durcorach the Black Drake and his horde of Reachman. Shornhelm, Daggerfall, Camlorn, Evermore, and Wayrest formed the very first Daggerfall Covenant.[5]

Sometime later Ranser became king of Shornhelm. Ranser wanted to build another fort next to Markwasten Moor to provide addition support over Shornhelm. It was decided that the new fort would be constructed among the ruins of the Lorkrata Hills.[6]

After High King Emeric chose Princess Maraya of Sentinel over Princess Rayelle as his bride, King Ranser's War had begun with the help of House Dorell, Montclair, and Tamrith on Ranser's side.[7]

King Ranser's forces attacked the city of Wayrest catching Emeric off guard. The Lion Guard was lucky enough to protect the city from being razed to the ground. Ranser excepted a swift victory. However, it backfired and turned into an everlasting siege.[7]

The siege went on from season to season. With the help of elite Redguard warriors, Emeric was able to push back Ranser's forces to Shornhelm. However, by the time he got them, Shornhelm was set ablaze by the Orcish Army lead by Kurog gro-Bagrakh. Eventually, the houses decided to leave the military knowing its demise.[7]

Ranser's forces were surrounded by the Bretons and the Orcs at Markwasten Moor. In a last ditch effort, the Battle of Markwasten Moor began between the Orcs of Orsinium and the Bretons of Shornhelm. General Dathieu of Ranser's army had come to the realization that Ranser's gone insane. The war finally ended when Dathieu murdered Ranser and surrendered to Emeric. Markwasten Moor has been now known as Traitor's Tor, and the old Shornhelm ruins are located south of the Tor.[7]

House Montclair has annexed part of the city leaving Shornhelm Divided. The Vestige visits the town when a Covenant informant told them to go to the city. Countess Eselde Tamrith tasked the Vestige into weakening Montclair influence around town. Eventually, they've ventured into the Fevered Mews and dealt with Reezal-Jul of House Montclair. High King Emeric arrives at the city and tasks the Vestige into helping House Tamrith and House Dorell into vanquishing Montclair's tyranny over Rivenspire.[8]

Third Era

Main article: Shornhelm (Arena)

In 3E 277, the kingdom of Shornhelm was offered to Andorak Lariat to drop his claim to the Imperial Throne. The Lariat family has been said to rule the kingdom from that point on.[9]

During the Imperial Simulacrum, the Eternal Champion had at one point visited the city in their quest for a piece of the Staff of Chaos.

Trivia

  • When Arena was going to be a tournament-based game, Shornhelm's team was known as the War Mages.[OOG 1]
  • The Lusty Argonian Maid was apparently adapted from a tradition tale with generally the same plot. In the north, one of its name was "Shornhelm's Lusty Orifice".[10]
