Especially effective against undead.
|Class: One Handed, Sword|
|Upgrade Material: N/A|
This sword is found almost exclusively on members of the Silver Hand, but can also be found on Bandit Chiefs with the Dawnguard add-on. The Silver Hand members are frequently encountered on quests for the Companions. The Silver Hand strongholds can be found at the following locations:
The enchantment of the Silver Sword is described as "Especially effective against the Undead." This damage translates to an additional 20 points of damage per hit to undead such as Draugr, Skeletons, Dragon Priests, Vampires, and re-animated corpses. Despite the description, Werewolves are affected too, given their innate weakness to silver.
When used as a vampire the damage increases.
The Silver Sword cannot be disenchanted since its effectiveness against the undead is an inherent ability of the silver material from which the weapon is forged. This also means it does not require recharging with soul gems.
The Silver Sword may be enchanted at an Arcane Enchanter in addition to its inherent ability; however, the original description will remain. Fire damage makes for an especially useful additional enchantment, as undead creatures are also highly susceptible to flame damage.
- When putting two Silver Swords in the upstairs bedroom Weapon Rack in Proudspire Manor, the game will freeze. If you save immediately after putting them in, you can reload the save and find that you are holding an invisible Silver Sword. However, any equipped weapon will replace it, and therefore it can not be equipped again.
- If the player has more than one Silver Sword in their inventory when they go to jail, additional swords will be added upon their release from jail. This also happens with Silver Greatswords.
