Walkthrough

When approaching Falkreath for the first time, the gate guard will come forward and ask the Dragonborn if they have seen a dog on the road into town. He'll go on to explain that the town blacksmith Lod saw a stray nearby in the wilderness. He'll go on and say that Lod has eyes on it for a pet, speak to him for information.

Lod will tell more about the dog and ask for help to bring him back to town. He can be persuaded to give half the payment for the task up front. Following the road out towards Helgen, the canine can usually be seen at a crossroads near to town.

When approaching him, Barbas will come up front and begin to speak in a human voice. The quest will complete and the new one "A Daedra's Best Friend" will immediately begin. Return to Lod whenever to report back about the dog, saying, "It was more trouble than expected" and collect the remainder of the gold.
