"Aye, now that's some fine armor. Good old-fashioned steel."
―Hold Guard[src]

Steel Armor is a set of heavy armor that appears in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. There are 2 versions of the cuirass available: with and without pauldrons (shoulder covers). They are identical aside from appearance.

Locations

Unenchanted pieces of armor will begin to appear throughout Skyrim at level 2 and enchanted variants can be found at level 3. These locations include:

Smithing

Steel Armor requires the Steel Smithing perk to create. Pieces can be forged at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:

Pieces can be upgraded with a steel ingot at a workbench and also benefit from the Steel Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.

Trivia

  • Although it would conceivably take more Steel Ingots to create, the version with pauldrons uses the same amount of materials as the version with no pauldrons.
  • Steel Shin Boots are identical in appearance to Imperial Boots, though they are not interchangeable for use of the "Matching Set" perk, due to them belonging to different sets of armor.
  • The Steel Horned Helmet does not need any horns of creatures in the inventory to create, leaving one to speculate where the horns come from during the creation of the helmet.
