Location
Edit
Unenchanted Steel Greatswords will begin to appear throughout Skyrim at level 2 and enchanted greatswords can be found at level 3. These locations include:
- Blacksmiths and General Goods Merchants.
- Wielded by various Characters, or Enemies.
- Found as random loot in chests, or as a world item throughout Skyrim.
Variants
Edit
- Skyforge Steel Greatsword - a possible reward for completing The Companions quest Proving Honor.
Smithing
Edit
Crafting the greatsword requires the Steel Smithing perk. It can be forged at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:
- 3 x Leather Strip
- 4 x Steel Ingot
- 2 x Iron Ingot
It can be upgraded with a Steel Ingot at a grindstone and also benefits from the Steel Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.
Trivia
Edit
- Can be seen in a loading screen wielded by a male Nord wearing Steel Plate Armor.
- It bears a resemblance to the German Zweihander sword due to its leather-wrapped ricasso, although it is purely cosmetic in the game.
