The Steel Shield is a piece of heavy armor and part of the steel armor set found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Smithing[]

Steel Shields require the Steel Smithing perk to create. It can be forged at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:

It can be upgraded with a steel ingot at a workbench and also benefits from the Steel Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  /  XB1  ,  PS3  /  PS4  ,  PC  /  MAC  ,  NX  /  PS5  ,  XS  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.
  • If the Dragonborn has not given Aela the Huntress her shield, Aela's Shield, during the quest "Take Up Arms" for the Companions, the game will register all Steel Shields as Aela's shield, therefore not allowing one to remove them from your inventory. Placing the shield on a shield display in one's house seems to allow one to remove them from their inventory.
