Actually, it is used for a thieves guild quest (the above person obviously hasn't completed the thieves guild quest chain). You can get this for maven to recieve valds debt so that you don't have to kill vald when you break into mercers house. You can sneak past vald also, however in that case when you get married he attacks you outside the temple and kills your wife, so i wouldn't do that if you were planning to marry afterwards.

ummm actually it is for a theives guild quest, although technecally it isnt because it is a misc objective, and can be compleated even after vald is dead, or the quest is over. The quest is the one where you break into mercer's house, to try and find information about his where abouts, leading you to the dwemer ruins that holds the eyes of the falmer. as such, you are both right. This has no other use than for the Thieves' Guild questline. It isn't 'technically not;' being a miscellaneous item has no bearing on the use of an item. The second guy was right, and the first guy was wrong. Stop being a hipster. ;P Till Hell Freezes Over 01:52, July 3, 2012 (UTC)

Glitch Issues Edit

I'm having a glitch issue. Whenever I try to swim down to get to the strongbox, the water, instead of being clear, turns a solid blue and I can't see. Any ideas on how to get past this? I tried the console command to just give me the stupid quill, but then the game doesn't recognize I have it and I can't give it to Maven. I've already killed Vald so it's sort of a moot point, but I'm a completionist and want to try for 100%. Any help?

Dont think its glitched because you used the console to get it. I have the same bug but I got it from the chest. I think it bugs because Vald gets killed before you get the quill. The only way I can see to sort this is by using setstage, not sure of the quest ID and stage to be set at tho. Kaldhore ^(talk) 10:44, February 12, 2013 (UTC)

Actually I am guild master and have obviosly completed the quest Former Glory and I have just done it, no glitches I even got a book on Valds debt which I put in my library in Morthal.
