are the Argonians really in a covenant with the Dunmer? that's surprising. but my god i cant wait.

I would think that the Kajiit and the Argonians would buddy up, seeing as though they're both Mer... But hey, spread the good races out among the alliances, right?

Well from what I can tell from the interview that GameInformer had with Paul Sage the Nords and Dunmer teamed up because the two groups were tired of having their lands invaded and then asked the Argonians because they were having quite a bit of trouble. The Argonians agreed because the alliance, or covenant if you prefer, would put them on equal footing with the Dunmer and Nords. The Kajiit teamed up with the Bosmer and Altmer because they believe the races of men have only caused a lot of conflict for the world and plan to more or less fix it. The last of the Alliances is more about trade.

For example: I cannot find anywhere where it says anything about Mannimarco. This leads me to believe that it has nothing to do with it, and someone has created the page as potential fanon. Remember, a lot of people are very interested in this series, and we've been the people to go to for information for quite a while now. Let's keep this trend going. Put sources for the information wherever possible. It makes it a heck of a lot easier for everyone to then check that the information on here is actually accurate (and thus, to remove any fanon from it). Thanks everyone! Hey Timeoin. I was the one who added the info about Mannimarco etc. It's not fanon - this information actually comes from the GameInformer scans that were leaked online. Next gen. Edit

This should be on the next generation of consoles too, they will be powerful enough for it. At this point not putting it on the next gen of consoles is either very ignorant or very stupid, after all not every fan of TES can afford a gaming pc. At this point in time, we still don't know when the next generation consoles will be released. Even then, they will more than likely enter the market at a high price point which (given the global economic crisis) could take quite a while to build up a sufficient installed base for an online title such as this. In addition, Microsoft or Sony may alter their online policies at any time, making this harder or less profitable for Bethesda to do.
Given that the NGC will be all but ensured capable of running this game well, there's no real need to think about porting it at this stage since it should be rather easy, unlike Skyrim which needed to fit within the capabilities of the already existing hardware.
ESO will probably happen for the NGC, but it won't be straight away. The NGC might even get an upgraded version of the game depending on the way the PC version develops in the meantime. Don't forget, Oblivion arrived on the Playstation 3 several years after the PC and XBox360 versions, yet wasn't announced alongside those versions. 178.99.62.70 02:43, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

How I'm understanding things, who the Emperor ends up being each week is a direct result of player-actions, so non-canon specifics are introduced in each individual game. While the concept that 'many short-lived Emperors came and went during that period' is canon, the details of exactly who these Emperors were is not clear. It's basically the same as saying that the "Dovahkiin defeated Alduin", which is accepted as canon, while the fact he might also have been leader of the Companions, Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood, or even a just a Nord, varies from game to game. 178.99.62.70 02:49, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Imperials Favorite Edit

Why can't I play as imperials their are my favorite race?

Thats probably because they don't exsist yet? As it states that Nords began the races of imperials and bretons. The breton race was created as a result of human - mer breeding. At the moment imperials are probably still nords right now. Besides, imperials suck. Nords FTW!

I'm fairly certain that they not only existed by the second era, but they are confirmed in the game, they just aren't playable, because their native home of cyrodil is being ravaged by the three waring factions. In other words ten can't be devided by three so the imperials as playable characters were dropped. On a secondary note, I find it a little offensive to say 'imperials suck' since they are perfectly nice people, I can understand hating the Cyrodilic empire (despite myself siding with them in the last three TES games), but to call the fault upon the race itself is a little short sighted, nothing against nords either, but i will likely end up playing a Redguard again for TES: Online (despite myself being of Scandinavian descent, ironicly).74.214.48.102 19:44, September 30, 2012 (UTC)C. They already made a game in Cyrodiil. Why doesen't ZeniMax make a game in an alternate province like Summerset Isle?

Than again, I am just a lowly gamer. What right do I have in making decisions?

I know, its the exact same place and the exact same situation as oblivion, and even though it is my favorite game of the seiries why not something like black marsh or the wood elves' province instead?!?! Do you not listen and read the page at all? It says Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, Skyrim, Morrowind & Summerset Isle. Besides this will be an MMO, meaning that it is online. And who doesn't want an online oblivion with sexy graphics?

Dragons Edit

I've read over the GameInformer coverage for ESO three times already. From what they were saying the interviewee just stated that dragons weren't a big part of ES history at that time. While this isn't much to go by, I think we can still expect a dragon or two as dungeon bosses or something of the sort.

As evidence, consider Paarthunax and the other dragon (whose name escapes me) who is found in Blackreach. They were "survivors" of the war in which all the dragons were killed (supposedly). They lived thousands of years afterwards to be found by the dragonborn. Also, take into account the book Annals of the Dragonguard. This book plainly states that the Akaviri were still hunting dragons well into the second era. This goes to show that the afore mentioned two dragons, along with any other potential survivors, could possibly be present in ESO. I will again state that I have no solid proof and that this IS speculation. I just want to put it out there that dragons can appear in the game without going against established canon. So, for all you dragon hunters/lovers out there, there's still hope.

I, too, believe that there will be a dragon or two making an appearance in the game. (Or, at the very least, some dragonlings). Extra Trivia Edit

Hey, it may be worthwhile to include in the trivia section of the actual The Elder Scrolls Online page that the game does not take place exactly 1,000 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (as it states on the FAQ page of http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/faq) But rather 998 years before. (If it where exactly 1,000 years before it would take place in 531 while its listed on http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline#Second_Era as taking place in 533.

I've just calculated it myself, and came up with a date of 2E 530 as being 1000 years before Skyrim, which is 11 years earlier than your calculation. Here's how I worked this out -

  • Skyrim takes place in 4E 200. This is an easy 200 years for the calculation.
  • The Third Era was 433 years long. That means, the whole of Eras 3 and 4 are 633 years.
  • The Second Era was a long one, of 897 years. It's during this era that TESO is set.
  • 1000 years - 633 years = 367 years before the start of the Third Era.
  • 897 years - 367 years = 2E 530 - the date it would have been 1000 years before Skyrim.

I'm not entirely sure my method of working this out is sound, but this period is still almost exactly 300 years before Tiber Septim, and makes a great deal of sense from the bits of information we do have about the Second Era.

As the game still hasn't been released, details like the date and such may not be set in stone. Since we both come to the conclusion that 533 is not exactly 1000 years before Skyrim, Bethesda may do the same and set it in 531 or 533 depending on which of us is correct. Likewise, they may keep the date as 533 and use the 1000 years concept as being a rough approximation.

We must also remember that, as an online title, the game's 'date' might be set server-side (as opposed to each game or shard's date being completely reset with each new character created). This means that only an approximate date is needed, as it could advance universally on the fly allowing for special events to happen on specific dates and times as the game's overall 'story' progresses automatically over time even if you don't participate.

As a result, the actual specific year could fluctuate, and may be less important than it is in a regular Elder Scrolls - the period itself overall would be what's significant here. 178.99.62.70 03:25, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Probably not worth the hype Edit

One of the things that makes the elder scrolls series awesome is the mods that come with it, and ability for user-created content. If they REALLY want to capture the feel of morrowind, crafting systems are going to have to allow MUCH more creative room in view of the lack of creation kits.... ways to customize appearance, it'd need spellcrafting that would put morrowind to shame, and much much more.

Frankly, seeing the direction things have gone since morrowind (cutting down on spells, less customization, etc.) and MMO's doing similar (shying away from point buy systems, and later class systems, to focus on tiered branching tree systems) and then combining those two annoying trends... I honestly don't see this being a very fun. Until I hear announced complex crafting systems (and not just "follow a recipe" systems that most MMO's have, but more like morrowind's spellcrafting that lets you set targets, change elements, choose between power and cost), I don't really see myself buying into ESO. I'm more prepared to be sorely dissappointed, and see it join the ranks of other failed big-name MMOs like Dungeons & Dragons online.

The Elder Scrolls isn't all about the mods and user content. It only became that way as a result of Bethesda giving players the Construction Kit with Morrowind and Oblivion, and the Creation Kit with Skyrim. No other Elder Scrolls title has real support for modding, though any game can be edited given enough time and effort.
Likewise, The Elder Scrolls isn't just a core set of titles - it's got quite a large number of spin-offs too. These can't be officially modded either, and people generally forget those because they're usually portable titles that cutdown and reduce the experience, or completely change the gameplay altogether. There was, for example, an Oblivion game for mobile phones that played nothing like the Oblivion we're familiar with.
We have to start to getting used to the idea that these spin-offs won't always be the 'terrible looking cousins that nobody knows exists', and every now and then one will surface that looks reasonably on-par with the core games. That's what's happening with TESO - it's a spinoff, like Oblivion Mobile, or Dawnstar, Redguard, Shadowkey and all the others. It's got completely different gameplay, but it looks somewhat decent because the core hardware it's developed to run on is poweful. The fundamental goal here is to expand the universe of the series by producing additional titles that further develop the lore, while being much more experimental and risk taking than the core series by trying out things such as online gaming.
This won't be like playing Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim with a bunch of friends, this will be a completely new experience altogether. It just looks similar, that's all. As it's being developed by a different development team at Zenimax, Bethesda assure us that this won't affect support for Skyrim or future games such as TES VI. 178.99.62.70 03:39, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Provinces in the game Edit

I thought there were a few screenshots identified as being of Black Marsh, but it isn't on the list of zones in the article.

ESO Page Confirmations?Edit

It has come to my attention that there are only six of the Nine Provinces listed as being inlcuded. Not to imply any more than is said, but the page also lists the Daggerfall Covenant, and the videos from ZeniMax (or is it Bethesda Softworks that uploads them?) show and suggest an involvement with the city of Daggerfall; Daggerfall is in High Rock which is not listed there. Somewhere in the new video interview with Paul Sage and Matt Firor, they mention playability of nine races (that is also on this page too); I believe there are ten races: Altmer, Argonian, Bosmer, Breton, Dunmer, Imperial, Khajiit, Nord, Orsimer, and Redguard. Not only does this page list Werewolves and Vampires under Creatures, it fails to mention what Matt Firor let slip: "In the game you have special character traits and abilities, such as being a Werewolf or Vampire..." Something to that effect, he most certainly says it in the newest video. Lastly, nowhere does it say any direct involvement from Mannimarco...By the way, is this entire plotline of events even in Elder Scrolls Lore at all? I don't recall Molag Bal wanting Mundus for his own...since he has his own plane of Coldharbour.

Just thought I'd point out these little things, don't take it the wrong way. Oh, and hello again. That was some hiatus of mine... :/

Player vs Player (PvP)Edit

Factions Their are 3 different factions you can play as:

  • Aldemeri Dominion led by Queen Ayrenn (Races: High Elf, Wood Elf and Khajiit)
  • Daggerfall Covenant led by High King Emeric (Races: Breton, Redguard and Orc)
  • Ebonheart Pact led by Jorunn the Skald-King (Races: Nord, Dark Elf and Argonian)

The player must choose which Alliance they belong to in order to fight over the Imperial City and White-Gold Tower to become the Emperor of Tamriel.

The fight between the 3 different factions is what brings in the PvP factor to the game and will feature the largest battles seen in major RPG's as the game will be able to support hundreds of on-screen players as they battle it out. The PvP will occur in Cyrodil where you will be trying to control the Imperial City and with it, the Ruby Throne of Tamriel. Each alliance wil also have to fight for stragetic territories, which include massive fortresses, each with supporting farms, lumber mills and other valuable resources. The more territory you have, the more of a chance your faction has of taking control of the Imperial City.

Battle-Leveling

PvP is possible for both new and old players to this type of gaming. The Elder Scrolls Online also has a battle-leveling system which boosts your level up to the level cap (50), so that you can jump right into the fight and not be afraid of the higher level players. This keeps it fair for everone and as soon as you are level 10, you can go and play PvP right away.

Elder Scrolls

Elder Scrolls are also a major part of PvP in the game. Elder Scrolls have immense power that aid all the members in a faction when they are obtained and each faction has a special stronghold where they can keep their Elder Scrolls protected, although other factions can break in and steal them if they are poorly guarded. When a faction steals an Elder Scroll, it must be taken back across Cyrodil and placed in that factions stronghold in order for the bonuses to work on all the members of that alliance.

Siege Weapons

To battle for Keeps and Resources, the player will need much more than steel. Siege weapons such as Trebuchets, Catapults, Battering Rams and Ballistae are available for players to capture and use, allowing them to destroy stone walls or collapse massive gates in order to get into well protected strongholds.

Empreror

In The Elder Scrolls Online, the highest ranking player of the victorious alliance becomes Empreror when their faction takes control of the Imperial City. The Empreror gain special abilities and become more powerful than the average player on the battfield. Their reign can last from a small amount of time to a lengthy one, depending on how long it takes for another alliance to take over.

Leaderboards and Achievements

Through Leaderboards and Achievements, you are able to keep track of your rank and also compare yourself, your alliance and your guild, to that of your friends or enemies.

Points and Gold

While fighting for an alliance, players can earn points in PvP with which they can buy siege engines and other bonuses to help their alliance in the fight. If you have not been playing PvP and would like to buy siege engines and bonuses right away, players are able to use money from PvE (Player vs Environment) instead of points.

Winterhold before the events of SkyrimEdit

Considering that Elder Scrolls Online is set before the great collpase, is there a possibility of seeing what Winterhold was like BEFORE much of it dropped into the sea? Does adding an online installment add anything of value to the lore of TES? I doubt it.

It's merely an attempt to cash in on the title TES with a cheap world of warcraft knockoff.

At least the story won't be muddled by the plethora of goblin-ass fetchquests like said mmo did to the frozen throne.

Bring on TES: Elsweyr or TES: Black Marsh.
