Tarhiel was working on a spell of flight, in the hopes of creating a method of one travelling quickly without the need to pay anyone else. After researching and calculating all the attributes of the spell, he sought to test it out, believing it could have one travel hundreds of miles.
When exploring the area around Seyda Neen, to the north the Bosmer mage can be seen flying up in the air, telling "WAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!". He soon falls to the ground and dies upon impact, with his last words being "AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!".
Tarhiel can be found flying in the air while exploring the area around Seyda Neen. Soon after being found, he drops and dies from the fall.
His life can be saved by casting a Slowfall spell with a large area of effect on the area where he falls. After, his only dialogue script is: "I don't want to talk about it". The only other line is "Cover yourself! Are you mad? Have you no decency?" if you are wearing no clothing while speaking to him.
- Scrolls of Icarian Flight: This enchanted scroll allows the caster to seemingly fly for a time. However, in actual fact it raises the user's acrobatics skill to 1000 for 7 seconds, allowing the caster to leap great distances.

- With The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn, a Bosmer wizard can be seen as a random encounter on Solstheim. This wizard will cast a flying spell when approached, but soon falls out of the sky and dies upon impact. This is likely a reference to Tarhiel.
- A reference to him can be found in northern Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls Online, in the form of another Bosmer mage named Icarian who also sought to achieve flight.
