For other uses, see Thaer.

Thaer is a Nord carriage driver. He can be found right outside the city gates of Solitude. He waits there until someone needs a ride to any of the capitals.

If attacked, he will jump off of his carriage and proceed to attack the Dragonborn. Attempting to steal from him will show nothing in his inventory. Only after being killed can anything be taken from him.

I'd like to hire your carriage. "Where do you want to go?"

What do you know about Solitude? "Solitude has been the capitol of Skyrim for as long as I can remember. Most of the High Kings of Skyrim were Jarls of Solitude first. Ah, let's see, what else... The Bards College is here, and the main office of the East Empire Company. If you need it, you can get a room for a fair price at The Winking Skeever, just inside the main gate."

Thaer will drive the Dragonborn to any hold capital, a useful service for discovering locations on the map for fast travelling later in the game. He charges either 20–50 GoldIcon, depending on the hold.

Upon boarding his carriage, Thaer may share a little tidbit of information about the Dragonborn's destination, or comment on the weather.

  • "Need a ride?"
  • "I can take you to any of the hold capitals."
  • "Need something?"
  • "Good afternoon."
  • "Yes?"
  • "Where do you want to go?"
  • "Good day."
  • "All right, then."
  • "My carriage is the safest way to travel."
  • "Good morning."

    • You can not use carriage while over-encumbered.
    • If you think that's bad, one time I encountered a dragon and then my followers decided to attack the carriage driver's horse instead.
