The Bear was the Jarl of Windhelm during the Great War in 4E 171. He was the father of Ulfric Stormcloak^[1].

He died while Ulfric was imprisioned by the Empire following the Markarth Incident. Ulfric, his only son, was forced to deliver his eulogy via a letter that he had smuggled out of prison.^[2] His death was said to have caused great mourning and anger among the citizens of Windhelm.^[2]
