Walkthrough[]

"You mortals only see life as precious because it ends. Take it from a god - you'll never know how fortunate you are."
Meridia[src]

After completing "The Citadel Must Fall," Vanus Galerion will tell you that they sent in a strike force as a distraction. He will ask you to head on ahead and open the way to the Labyrinth, after which the main force will follow you. He will then tell you to speak with Hahnin and Gabrielle Benele about the plans. Gabrielle will tell you that the enemy is using portals to move their troops around, and will ask you to close them. Hahnin will tell you that the fighters guild will come in behind you to secure the line, and that you can bring one soldier with you. Your choice for this is between Darien Gautier and Cadwell if you have not done any sidequests, though other choices will be available if you have done those.

After you have made your choice, speak with King Laloriaran Dynar. He will then inform you of the full plan. Your first mission is to close the portals that spawn the daedric reinforcements, so that the mages guild can come in and secure the area. Then you should open the way to the endless stair where the Planar Vortex is located. The reinforcement portal will be northeast of your location, north of the Endless Overlook. The area is crawling with hostile Daedra, so take care not to get overwhelmed on your way there. You will have to take a long, winding bridge to get over where the portal is; the start of the bridge is north of the start of the bridge to the Endless Overlook.

The portal will be guarded by the Guardian of the Gate, but if you helped the vampires during "The Harvest Heart," they will assist you in killing this beast. Close the portal, then follow the path westward to the entrance of the Labyrinth. When you arrive there, Vanus Galerion will appear. He will tell you that the main force will now strike at Molag Bal's lair while you head into the Labyrinth to find the planar vortex. Gabrielle Benele and a contingent of mages will accompany you inside.

Head in and talk to Gabrielle. She will tell you that they can't find a way to open the door ahead and will ask you to solve the puzzle. While navigating this room, take care not to fall between the platforms. If you head west of the entrance, you can find a document titled How the Locks Work that will help you along, though you will have to jump down to get to it. It will detail that you need to heat the pipes to open the lock. Jump down from here and you will find a book titled The Daedric Flame. It will detail how the blue flames in this area work; they can imbue you with energy for a short time, which you can then use to activate machinery.

Head along the path ahead. If you saved Zur during "The Soul-Meld Mage," he will be found here, but he will have nothing of note to tell you. Use the energy from the flames to light the cold-fire braziers. You do not need to get close to the braziers to light them; you can fire the blue flame's energy from a distance. Also note that while this place may seem difficult to navigate at first, it is really just one circular path. Once all the braziers are lit, you can go through the door to the next area. After a long bridge, you will find yourself in an area of almost complete darkness. Zur will appear here again if you saved him and will have light magic floating around him; talk to him and he will give you one of his light orbs. The area will still be very dark though, and it is easy to lose your way and wind up where you started. Keep track of where you are going and make sure you continue in the right direction (northwest). Eventually you will reach the door to the next area.

Cross the bridge and head into the Statue Room. There, talk to Gabrielle and tell her you are ready to proceed. Follow her around the room, and you will be attacked by the statues coming to life. There are many of them, but they are not strong individually. Eventually, you and Gabrielle will stumble upon the door to the next area, which is blocked by a ward. Fend off the enemies while Gabrielle gets the door open, then proceed with her to The Endless Stair.

Cadwell and Vanus Galerion will appear here through a portal. Speak with Vanus and he will tell you the battle ouside is going sour; many soldiers including Hahnin have fallen to the daedric forces. He will also tell you that you are getting close to the portal to the Planar Vortex, but Bal will do everything in his power to stop you from reaching it. Head across the bridge. On the other side, you will be ambushed by Daedra, but if you managed to get the Shadow Walkers' help during "The Shadow's Embrace," they will appear and assist you. Head along the path and over the next bridge and you'll face Telkor the Unforgiving, a strong Daedra with powerful ranged attacks. Once he is dead, the Groundskeeper will appear. She will tell you that in order to destroy the planar vortex, you must enter it, destroy the dark anchors there and let shine the light of Meridia at the center of the vortex.

The groundskeeper then tells you that she will summon all your allies that still live into the vortex to help you. A dark anchor will appear the moment you enter the vortex, but the Groundskeeper will destroy it, revealing herself to be the Daedric Prince Meridia in the process. Speak to Meridia and she will tell you that she planned this for a long time, but needed a mortal champion to stop the Planemeld. Your allies will now arrive. Speak with Meridia again and she will tell you that there are three dark anchors here that need to be destroyed before you destroy the vortex itself, or else Nirn would be destroyed as well.

Your first target will be to the southwest of your current location. You will be ambushed by many daedra along the way. If you have completed many of the sidequests in Coldharbour, you will have enough companions to easily dispatch these enemies, but if you did not, things will be harder. Once you get close, you will see that the portal is in a place you cannot actually reach, but Meridia will appear and destroy it. You will then witness an interaction between Meridia and Molag Bal; they will start fighting. Your next target is along the road to the north; northwest of where you started. When you reach the dark anchor, you will be set upon by many enemies; make sure you do not get overwhelmed, especially if you brought few allies. Gabrielle Benele and Darien Gautier will stay behind here to destroy the anchor while you search for the focal point.

The focal point is along the road to the east. place the light of Meridia there, and Molag Bal will send his council of three elite soldiers to face you in one-on-one combat. These should not be too difficult to dispatch at this point in the game. Meridia will then appear and summon all your allies while Bal sends legions of daedra your way. Meridia throws up a shield to prevent Bal himself from joining the fray while you wait for Gabrielle to use her magic to power up the crystal. After the anchor is destroyed, use Meridia's light to destroy the vortex and end the Planemeld.

Once this is done, you will find yourself in what looks like a chapel. Speak with Meridia and she will tell you that all the allies who were present at the final battle are resting in the room below, but that king Dynar has suffered grievous wounds and is near death. He is not actually in the room below, but rather he is lying in the southern corner of the room you are currently in, with Vanus Galerion and Gabrielle standing over him. Speak to Dynar and hear his final words to finish the quest. He will pass away the moment the conversation is over.
