Last time I went to the Wretching Netch Cornerclub, I heard Captain Veleth say 'mazte' instead of 'matze'.
I saw a youtube video of Skyrim glitchs (theres are so many i can't remember which one) it pointed out a few in game spelling mistakes, i always have subtitles off so i never see them myself.
You misspelled the word "misspelling" ;)
There's a lot of spelling errors in video games, Morrowind has a character whose name is spelled three different ways: neither the spelling of his key nor his house match his name.
It's spelt Mazte in Morrowind and ESO, so Matze is a misspelling.
I'm aware, the Mazte item was only added in March this year. I'm only mentioning it because a 2-1 spelling confirms which one is right.
(I Formally apoligise for reviving this thread though this has been bugging me quite a bit for quit a while)
Although it's a 2-1 spelling it's not as if a spelling mistake in Morrowind couldn't have made it's way into ESO and the spelling in Skyrim is the correct spelling. Personally the whole mazte being unleavened bread in german part is undeniably true and I don't think that Bethesda would name a beverage after bread in german though they may have overlooked the fact that mazte is german for unleavened bread.
In short mazte is almost definitly spelling mistake for matze (as proven by the aforementioned argument) but it's not out of the realms of possibility for Bethesda to overlook something while adding a item/NPC to The Elder Scrolls (would'nt be the first time "cough" "Marcurio" "cough")
