Will the Elder Scrolls: Online be coming out for PS3?

We already have the answer; ESO will be released on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PS4.

Is there any news about Online being released on PS3/X-Box?

    • I doubt it but I hope it does. My pc can't handle these games and I really don't want to spend money just to play one game. If Diablo 3 does well one the PS3/4 then it does have a good shot of eventually being on the consoles.

    • the elder scrolls online will only be on pc. it is an online mmo. so like other mmo's it will only be on pc.

    • Defiance is a MMO (kinda) but thats on consoles FFXI too. But no doesn't look like it be for consoles (even if it was i would imagine it would be PS4 and XBone anyway).

    • The problem with going multi-platform on MMOs isn't the technology limitations or even money.  It's always getting the console companies to work together.  To do it right, you'd want all three playing the same server system, which is what Defiane tried.  From what I understand (every preview I read) it worked like a charm in Alpha and early Beta.  The issue was Microsoft, they didn't want to share space with Sony on such a large scale and that means the idea got scrapped.  Well, that and a very long story with a huge tangental rant at the end, but I'll save you from that.  If ESO goes multi-platform it will be on the next-gen, but if it's not playable across the board (me on my PC with a friend on PS4 and Xbox One), then it just won't be worth doing, in my opinion.

It isn't great yet, it isn't out.  And because it isn't out it isn't on any platform - to include PC.  The question is still technically up in the air, my guess is they won't go multi-platform simply because Microsoft doesn't play well with others and they'd have to make three seperate servers like Trion did with Defiance.

    • isn't microsoft the creators of Xbox too?

        Loading editor
    • I'm not sure what else you think they made from this thread, but they did make the Xbox, yes.  The point in my statements about them is that they don't work well with Sony in making games playable across the platforms' online networks.

Just turn up the graphics way high and more of the burden will be moved from the CPU to the GPU, and if that dosen't work just turn it down a lot. It's an MMO so the worst case scenario is that there is a bug that causes the GPU to be used instead of streamed.

    • But why did MS pay bethesda to give the expansion specifically to the Xbox only and not the PC? If people got Skyrim for the pc they probably wouldn't go buy an xbox just to get the expansions earlier? I got pc, I wouldn't even consider switching to an xbox...

    • It hit both the console early, didn't it?  At any rate, what does Skyrim, single player games, or expansions have to do with ESO and what platforms it'll be on?

    • Playstation got it last, so late that it got all 3 at the same time...

Could be becuse 360 owners have to pay a subscription for their full online features getting DLC first is MS's way of saying "look its worth it honest!"

    • That's a good point, AzuraKnight, I never thought about that part.  All I know is it's time to these companies to work together to provide a unified gaming experience across the board for MMOs.  If they want sales, get them by being great, not greedy.

    • Most likely Playstation 4, developers have figured out more ways with so many options of what there going to do with there systems but I think on my opinion that it will take years for that to happen.

        Loading editor
    • The issue isn't the technology, Defiance did it on the current generation of consoles . . .  it worked.  The issue is the rival companies working together, Sony was willing while Microsoft said no.  Microsoft needs to lighten up and start sharing space in the world of gaming.  They won't win the "console wars" by being secluded.

    • microsoft has started to work with ccp and sony againg to make dust available on the xbox one. so ESO might come to consoles

        Loading editor
    • That's the same story they fed users/gamers about Defiance, though.  Then they tried to blame it on technological issues, but leaks from Trion and Sony claimed otherwise.  Now that might be what has made them start working with CCP for Dust, but I'm just not convinced with Microsoft anymore until I see it happen.  They promise a better console for gamers and deliver an entertainment center for families, they promise Defiance across all platforms being playable and deliver lies about why it didn't work, they promise a better OS and deliver their phone UI on a PC . . . just not reliable enough for my taste lately.

        Loading editor
    • All of that was said, but I forgot to make the final and more positive point:

I do hope ESO hits consoles, and it would only be cool and work right if the controller interface is intuitive like in Defiance.  Also, it almost has to be one server across platforms . . . you're talking about trying to attract players from all walks of life and put them together as well as pit them against one another.  I think the world is ready for cross-platform gaming.  There's no reason why I can't play on my PC with my friends from various consoles.  Microsoft is mostly just bitter because they tried to implement the idea first in the industry and was shot down.

"Games For Windows" was supposed to a cross-platform server for PC and Xbox players, but EA shot it down and told them they wouldn't participate.  Back then, if EA or Activision said no, that was the end of it.  You had to have backing from them to make things happen in the gaming world.  But now that other devs are making the leap, it almost feels like Microsoft is being spiteful about it.

I've always heard you get what you pay for so

    • Also if Microsoft wants to be greedy then make them seprate, it would be less fun, but at least there's still real people to play with. Does anyone know if you can make seprate servers or not? There isnt singleplayer is there? Ive heared rumors but havent seen any proof, but i would enjoy online singleplayer even though it pretty much defeats the point (and the title) it would be awesome to have all of Tamriel to yourself.

        Loading editor
    • There is no "official" single player campaign, but the game is built to be mostly playable solo.  You'll still run into all the other people on your phase of the server and there will be content you won't be able to accomplish, but you can level entirely alone if you want.  There are even solo quests in Cyrodil, so you can work alone to further your faction in the PvP zone - I imagine you'll still be free to gank, however.  So to clarify the partial answer I made to one of your questions, you cannot make your own server.  It is one giant mega-server, you will be phased into sections of the server with people you answered similarly to in the initial questionare and/or with your guild and groups when you are in one of those.

As for the cross-platform stuff, I'd say the first thing we need to know is just how viable will the gamepad controller interface be.  We're most likely looking at next-gen consoles if it does just for the fact that Zenimax will want to people to be playing over the next several years, and this console generation is coming to an end (the large majority of gamers sell off or trade in their current console), but they might just do a double release as we've seen with some Playstation games in the past that released on the early or late edge of a cycle.  The final point I'd like to make in this is that there may not be enough MMORPG players on consoles to warrant doing this if it isn't "one server to rule them all", so to speak.  Defiance has the luxury of being an MMO-Shooter above all else.  It has some RPG elements, but it's ultimately just a shooter with some classing and happens to be online only.

Site source, please?  I've not seen this, nor does it make sense for them to be out on the current generation.

        Loading editor
    • I really doubt 85.12.79.6 is citing anything relavent. I highly doubt they would even attempt to come out on the current generation. That being said if they could get microsoft and sony to play along, my next concern would be interface. I could envision that if they release it on console possibly allowing console players to use a different interface on console specific servers.

I personally would hope they could find a way to do it, not only for being able to play an mmo with my console friends but for simple economics. The absoulte cost of developing a traditional mmo scares me. It makes me afraid that if the elder scrolls online does not take off it will drag all of Zenimax down. Offering a true mmo experience across all platforms would give them a monopoly and absolutely gurantee their success if they deliver a good game.

        Loading editor
    • I hope it is released on PS4 and Xbox One, maybe if it comes out on Xbox One only it might be a redeeming feature for an otherwise terrible machine though I hope they don't do that.

If console gamers create a large MMO scene then I can see it coming once it has been rendered popular by PC gamers. As a console gamer and great fan of Elder Scroll I hope it comes out on console but even then I will most likely play it on my laptop, even if it has to be on the lowest graphic option so it is above 1 FPS.

And sir 85.12.79.6 I sure hope you have some evidence for that claim, I do hope, very much so infact, but you are not exacty a reliable source.

    • Interface won't be an issue, they're using all of the classic minimalist UI so the screen already isn't cluttered on PC.  And as for controller interface, Defiance does it wonderfully!  I play on my PC for Defiance. but I use a wired Xbox controller for driving.  It's been tested and proven - short of hand/eye coordination or depth perception issues - that keyboard and mouse gaming is more accurate for FPS and RTS games.  That said, anything can be adapted, as proven by Halo Wars (not a horrible game, but they tried too hard . . . worth picking up at a reduced price if you like the old school Bungie stuff).  I love driving with my controller on Defiance and it's seamless to just pick it up and drive, then set it down to walk around and shoot stuff.

I say that to say this, the controller interface for Defiance is full and intuitive.  That means it can be played 100% on controller if one so desired, and it can be played well.  I did it for a while on my computer and didn't hate it, lol.  Zenimax can pull the majority of key mapping from Oblivion and/or Skyrim (more so the latter) to make it playable via a gamepad.  Once that's possible for PC, it's just a matter of porting and rolling with it.  Well, and getting Microsoft to play nice - possibly the biggest pitfall of all.

    • Check out the press release, here , also.  It is on all major next-gen platforms.  To include X-One, PS4, PC and Mac.  The only news we're really waiting on now, in relation to this thread anyway, is if all platforms will play on the same server, or if it'll be like Defiance was forced to be (thank you Microsoft).

        Loading editor
    • Further digging has brought about further news, check out here for more info.  The big deal for me there is that PC and Mac will share a server (obviously), but the consoles will be on two seperate and distinct servers.

    • One last thought, then I'm off to bed on this one:

With the advent of platform gaming what will this mean for the business model of the game?  Defiance is a multi-platform MMO, and it went Buy to Play.  With any luck, the added sales of non-PC gamers will mean they're trying to aford the Buy to Play business model with minimal microtransactions.  This, in my opinion, shows great promise!

    • They'll be releasing only on next-gen because it's silly to release a game when backwards compatibility won't work on half the console players that buy it.  Also, production on an entirely different format of disks (in this case two, actually) would not be cost-effective.  The new generation will be out soon and a lot of people will be trading in their consoles or just shelving them to get the new ones.  That, coupled with the fact that Microsoft and Sony probably don't want the game released on this set of consoles makes it impossible to get it released and make it matter.

    • And that was a fair assumption given the lack of support in the past several years from devs/fans/studios/marketing/the whole friggin' world for MMOs released on console.  But with the power available these days and the advent of Defiance making a pretty decent splash and the works for World of Tanks (not an MMORPG, but a F2P MMO Battleground game) it's all possible now, and still very new.  I don't expect console sales will surpass PC/Mac, but I'm excited all the same to see it cross so many gaps!

        Loading editor
    • Well, Contrib 108.215, that's a little presumptuious of you to say.  A lot of console players actually can't afford the computer advancements that are required to be competitive in the large-scale content.  But if you're playing on PC you don't have to worry as they'll be on a separate server than you.

    • Sure there are, but Blizzard ran the front-lines in the industry of hacker-trackers.  Hacking is not only bannable, but you can have legal action taken against you if caught/found.  That game is somebody else's intellectual property.  I'm not really sure why you brough up hackers, except maybe for the console group of system-modders and hackers, but they'll be caught as well if they start altering things in the ZeniMax's gamespace.

Lol "Microsoft doesnt play well with others" ?? more like microsoft are money hungry power fiends just look at the proof of their new phone comercials "dont fight switch." when really they mean give US all your money and no one else. I hope microsoft dies out because of their greed and are forced to buy products of Sony cuz they seem to be the only ones who want to help out with as little money spent on our ends as possible while still making a healthy profit.

    • Did you know it was actually possible to install Linux operating system on your PS3 for a short while due to Sony claiming their console to be under "computer" catagory so they were forced to allow choice of operating systems it was some where in the area of the eastern hemisphere (cant remember exactly where) to avoid their massive game console taxes or some such. its been a while since I read about it so sorry for uncertainty.

        Loading editor
    • Actually, on the PS3 Sony lost money with initial sales, but their production and publishing sections for the games and exclusive contracts picks up the slack easily enough.  Over time they made a profit on the consoles, but it took longer than Microsoft.  I to hope that Sony comes out on top and I'm not even a console gamer anymore.

        Loading editor
    • Oh I see well that just proves that they arent completely money hungry bastards. lol

Yeah I hear ya Im forced to be a console gamer since my computer is incapable of playing anything with more requirments than WoW and even that has a framerate drop from hell infact the only games this computer can play that i know of is diablo 1 & 2 an games of that time I cant even play morrowind D: and I am forced into an even worse position cuz all I have is my Xbox now and I refuse to pay them money to play online so I only own single player RPG games and I dont even have a hard drive for the damn thing (thankz Microsoft you greedy assholes) so I have a hard time deciding which DLC to get and so on yeah big pain in the Fuckin ass I would just get a computer but I dont even know what to buy I dont dare ask best buy employees they'll just try to sell me any old computer even if i specifically say I want one for gaming

        Loading editor
    • I can actually help here, lol.  How much are you willing to spend on the computer?  Are you good with ordering one online and having it shipped, or maybe even custom built?

        Loading editor
    • Hmmm well Im not really sure Im not exactly "rollin in dough" as the expression goes lol but Im willing to pay enough to get something that will run most games on their highest settings as for ordering online I myself have never done it but my parents order things on ebay and such all the time so they could help me with that custom built sounds like fun (the custom part) lol Idk the highest I think I could go for price right now is around 400 maybe 500 if Im lucky

        Loading editor
    • Well, then custom built is out, those are costly.  Mine cost me two thousand - granted I got a lot more than I needed, lol.  I would suggest hitting websites like www.ibuypower.com and www.lenovo.com and maybe even try www.digitalstormonline.com.  I bought mine from iBuyPower, and love it.  32GB RAM, two 1TB HDD and a 60GB SSD for my OS, NVIDIA GeForce 750series, 1000watt power supply, 12-in-1 media reader, combo optical drive (CD and DVD +- R/RW with BluRay reader), 5.1 sound card, i7 quad core with hyper threading technology (which means eight cores) running 2.6GHz.

I would say you don't need all that though.  I would suggest something along the lines of the following:

      • 16GB RAM
      • Hard drive space if your call, but I can't suggest an SSD for your Operating System strongly enough, the non-spinning disk is just safer.  If you play a lot of games, I would suggest a 40-60GB SSD and a single 1TB HDD
      • You don't need the media card reader, and your optical drive doesn't need BluRay, but you can't go wrong with the DVD +- R/RW, this is just a good call and doesn't cost all that much
      • You can get away with on-board sound if you aren't doing anything major, but the 5.1 cards usually aren't that expensive
      • Processor doesn't need to be an i7, you can run an i5 just fine.  They run four cores without hyper threading, so it's still four cores.  Total GHz is your call based on money spent
      • My final major suggesstion is to stear clear of Window 8, which the only way you can do that is by custom building.  If you buy from a store you will end up with it, but it just isn't worth it, in my opinion.  Stick with 7, you'll be a happier gamer for it.

These aren't hard rules, but it's what I would say is a good starting point.  Go to iBuyPower and Digital Storm, compare the builds and the prices, see where you get.  Then I'd check out www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com and see if they have any kits and the extra parts to make one of the builds, you may save money that way.  The final option is see about buying all the parts together from a store, you can still buy Windows 7, just not a computer with it from a retail store.

        Loading editor
    • If you're going to custom build a decent gaming rig, and you don't know enough about it, i would reccomend asking for aid in every specialized forum you can get to.500 is almost impossible, what with the today specs. My father spent eight thousand on the main rig(i like bragging about how much my father likes games) and four thousand on the older one he gave to me.Though it may be only because of our ridiculous prices. But still, it will get expensive.

        Loading editor
    • You can get a decent computer for $500, but you'll never build a gaming machine on that much.  You need at least double that to make a pretty decent rig, and it'll need upgrades pretty quickly.

        Loading editor
    • It's kind of a personal preference with me on Windows 8, and just about everyone I know personally, and most forums I have read.  It just isn't as good as 7 overall, it's a less intuitive OS and from what I understand is less powerful while requiring more resources than 7.

    • This thread is massively off-topic. Start a new thread, it will be easier and it would make more sense for a computer discussion not to be on a thread which was originally about consoles.

        Loading editor
    • This thread took a natural progression to this topic, I am still offering help in the realm of feasibility, and the answer to the original question has been answered.  In case anyone missed it, ESO will be released on PC, Mac, PS4 and Xbone One.  It will be utilizing three separate servers, one for each console and one for the desktop gamers.  There will also be a subscription fee to play, which makes playing on console even more expensive.

As for the progessive topic, my ultimate suggestion is always to go NVIDIA, and get the best you can afford.  SLI isn't really worth it if you can get one card that's better.  Only go SLI if you can afford two of the most bleeding edge cards, otherwise you may as well just spend the money on one card and be good with it.

    • Love your response to that ^^ lol and thankz so with adding the AMD Radeon HD 7850 - Single Video Card and changing the power supply to 600watt (because at least 500 was required for the video card and having minimum requirments sounded like a bad idea when it comes to power supply) it bumped up to 958 so with luck and the help of some xmas money gifts this year and selling my xbox i may be able to reach it hopefully

    • Really, i doubt that ESO will be comin' to PS3. Look at Skyrim. it took five years for Sony to even put it out. and from the images Im seeing i doubt it will take another 6 to 7 years to put ESO on a platform other than PC.

Perhaps you should have read the remaining posts, or kept up with our community news, before making that comment.  It has been confirmed as cross-platform, albeit all next-gen.

    • I get the feeling with the way microsoft is going to make you have to pay for xbox live and a ESO Subscription they will drop the Xbone release and keep it too PC,Mac, and PS4

        Loading editor
    • They won't drop the Microsoft release, it'll make them some money.  And they need all the money they can get given the number of people flocking away from this title right now.  Besides, you need PS+ to play on PS4.  It may not be as much as the X-Box One, but it's still extra money that people won't want to pay.

We read that XBox360 games won't play on the XBone due to the new operating system....*sigh*

The same with the PS4, btw.

    • PS4 may surprise you.  I'd bet money that the game is released for PC only, but as some time passes it'll be realeased for console too.  Play Station loves the idea of a supreme online world and an mmo would be the perfect opportunity for them to boast about their online experience.  Give it time and i bet you'll see both Sony and Microsoft flocking to get this game to console.

Have you been living under a rock for the past couple of months? Please read what has already been announced, it will be released for PS4, Xbone, Mac and PC around the same time.

    • Skyrim shouldn't be online in my opinion.  The game is all about the player interacting with the world, not leaving it as a background by which to interact with other players.  There are plenty of other online games.

        Loading editor
    • what? the online game isn't really much like skyrim, it's made to be an MMO, all the other main games are single player for the reason you said, but not ESO.

        Loading editor
    • it will only be coming out for PC and next generation consoles. so not PS3 or 360.

    • It will be on Xbox One I am SURE of it.  Check the Xbox website, xbox.com

Can you please refrain from pointlessly taking up space? Anyway the question has already been answered ages ago, it'll come out on PC, Mac, PS4 and Xbox One. I don't really see why this point has to be recited over and over again.
