After 45 it became a slow crawl. I can only imagine it's going to take forever to get to 99 or whatever the cap is.

It's really useful since you can earn +2-4 perks each time you get Block to 100 and it doesn't take that long :).

I am kind of scared to "Legendary" my skills that I have at 100, so I am kind of having a dilema .... Should I go back to 15 on my Archery, Sneak and Smithing.... I have already done it on my light armor, because when I got to 100 in smithing I wanted the Dragon Bone armor. I figured it would help a bit in leveling... but to lose Archery scares me at this level...

    • @ ODragonO there are a few factor's to consider. I play on Master and Legendary difficulty so if I have 100 skill on Heavy and Light armour, I can Legendary one of them and wear a mix of Heavy and Light armour (to level one of them) and still have a good armour rating. Having another offensive option that is high level and making Archery legendary will work, you can level you're archery and have a backup damage option for tough fight's. As for smithing, as long as you enhance equipment that you like to use for a while and have a lot of smithing ingot's etc, you can legendary smithing. Sneak I usually legendary straight away when I have good equipment it does't matter if I get spotted, plus it's easy to level sneak especially in place's that have a lot of people. (Shadowcloak of Nocturnal is handy for this)

    • 107, using Harmony loop for illusion. Before I downloaded patch 1.9, I was level 78, so close enough to max before Legendary came out.

Level 252 is about as high as you need to go to get every perk, although everytime you level up you still get that bonus to Magicka/Health/Stamina that you can choose, so you can just get leveling up to tank up your character.

The 1.9 patch let's you reset any skill (make Legendary) that is at 100 to 15 so you can keep levelling up. Before the patch the level cap was 81.

        Loading editor
    • so i can be over 9000????

    • By level 252 you will have all the perk point's to max out all the skill's, beyond that you will only be gaining health, magicka or stamina each level.

        Loading editor
    • It gets exponentially harder to level, so if you are going for 9000, Its going to be a looong road for you to walk.

Stuff you SHOULDN'T legendary most of the time include your combat skills (one handed, destruction, archery etc) and protection skills (armor, alteration). These take pretty long to grind, numbering in tens of munutes to hours.

Stuff good for legendary are easy to grind and do not affect your combat prowess (illusion, smithing, alchemy, enchanting). For example, you can go from 15 - 100 illusion in 30 seconds.

For example, for a character that I ground all skills to 100 using illusion alone at about 10 legenedaries, I am around 110, 20, I am like 130, 30, I hit only 140 and at about 45-50, I am only 151. It lakes 147 legendaries to hit 252, so its going to be very long to reach anything more. There is no level cap anymore, but there still is a point where levelling gets ridiculously impossible due to the sheer level ups of skills required.

So I sit here alone on Christmas Day.... Bored.... So I decided to take my mind off the Holiday and spend some time in Skyrim, well I decided to experiment with possible leveling up of my character, Currently Level 51.

I adorn my Full Dragon Armor and Dragon sheild, head out to Bleakwind Basin and engage the three mammoths and two Giants. Take down one giant and the three mammoths.

I coax the remaining giant to an area where we are able to engage in combat with little trouble of bumping into things  etc... So I spend the next THREE HOURS real time deflecting blows from this giant with my shield, taking hits to my armor and restoring my health.

Well I am now seeing the appeal to leveling up to higher levels and quickly also.

I started all this at Level 51, I ended the giants life at level 83!!! Yes a total of 32 levels in the space of around three hours. Not to mention the increases in Health, Magic and Stamina.

So I retract my earlier statements on my confusion as to why leveling up was so important and FUN! LOL

      I Have Seen The Light~  :D

You have to reset them. IIRC it puts them back at 10 or 15 and gives you back all the perk points.

Easiest way to lvl up smithing IIRC was smithing jewelery. Since smithing exp is based on the value of the item. managed to get to somewhere close to 70 or 80 :S

Lvl 250 is needed to get all the perks. After that well ummm well done your just stackin on main stats arent ya?

I completed all questlines (dragonborn, dawnguard included) for these 4 saves (if I did all of it on one character, I'll be lvl 252 already). I really have no life man...

@Spyrocks - legendary places your skill back to 15 and lets you lvl it for exp again. You can repeatedly legendary something. I recommend illusion, cause its easy to grind up again, after getting harmony. If u r not a mage than do it with block. With some effort, you can reach lvl anything

Still, I recommend that you don't touch your attack skills (archery, destruction, one handed and two handed) or your protection skills (heavy, light or alteration) cause it can be a pain in the ass to fight without them (granted, alteration is easy to level)

The game keeps telling me to press the start button to level up but I don`t want to. I hate the levelling system and think it should be scrapped.

        Loading editor
    • I think the leveling system is great. I think it's a clever imagining of the typical leveling system that we see in most RPG's. I'm not sure what you don't like about the leveling system, but maybe if you tried utlizing it you'd see why it's awesome...? The game must be boring to play it at Level 1 and hardly ever see the stronger, higher level enemies that show up depending on your character level, and to only see the lower level armor and weapons and hardly see anything else (unless you smith it).

        Loading editor
    • They should have added more with each stat: If you upped magicka, each up will give pehaps 5% more damage to destruction? Upping stamina gives a 5% melee boost?

I think there should be like three stats:

Intelligence - increasing this improves spell power, spell efficiency, amount of magicka and magicka regen percentage. Also, increases archery damage a little

Strength - increasing this ups carry weight, stamina, stamina regen percentage and melee damage. Also increases archery damage a little

Vitality - increasing this ups health and health regen.

        Loading editor
    • I used the alchemy/enchanting loop to super fortify the smith skill. It only takes improving a couple items on a grindstone to max it to 100 and at lower levels that will level you up multiple times. Then those items are so ridiculously expensive, you can level up your speech skill fast by buying everything a trader has and selling them one of your upgraded weapons to get your money back. That gets you a ton of gold quick and other items to sell, or use fast. But you better use the same loop to make a crazy maxed fortify carry weight enchantment too, you'll need it.

    • Well (base game here), the highest I got was with a Breton character at 63, but had to delete her (long story, but a bug was involved). Mostly I go to 50s, then at that point I can kill everything and everything gets too easy so I go back to a lower level character. I've never even got to the max of 81 for the base game, though leveling up at higher levels requires you to start to be a "jack of all trades" when your skills you were leveling in the first place are 100. Also, it takes forever if you don't have the Mage, Thief, Lover, or Warrior stone activated.

There's my second Altmer mage that's level 56 that I haven't done anything with because she can just cast Lightning Storm and everything is toast, so I'm seriously thinking of scraping her because I have done nothing with her since I defeated Alduin with her three months ago.

I was level 901 within about 5 hours and after a few (IRL)days of running around like that the game started crashing within seconds of loading. I was initially going for 9,001(for obvious reason), but I stopped at 901 because it was taking about 30 legendary resets to get 1 level and I was getting tired.

An interesting thing to note is that if you have 251 perks points, when you level up, instead of going to 252, it resets all your perk point total back down to 1.

    • I got to level 110 yesterday after about 6 hrs of grinding.

I used pickpocketing in solitude to get caught and get all the guards on to me, then equiped a mixture of light and heavy armor (legendary pieces at about the armor cap as I was just below lvl 70 when I started, 69 I think), basically I used detect life which levels up the fastest and the light and heavy armor levels up steadily, I also decided to level up illusion by casting Pacify at the groups of citizens that watch at a distance (pacify is not strong enough to work on the guards as i found out). I did use a "loop" enchanted item to regenarate magicka.. which was a bit of a cheat but it can be done normally. I think my alteration has been made legendary about 7 times, illusion 2, block 1 (almost 2) heavy armor 1 as i started it late and light armor about 4 times.

Although I'm happy with it I'm starting to miss the point tho, as much as id like level 252 to level up evertything it kinda becomes pointless but hey, it's a game and I like that we have the option to mess about.

PS: Don't kill the guards or NPCs unless you want a huge bounty and possibly kill someone who you will need later.

An easier way on Solstheim is to let Tilisu and Mirri Severin beat you into a corner inside Severin Manor during Served Cold. Just heal every now and then and watch as whichever armor skill you are trying to raise maxes over an over pretty quick. It's best to do it at later levels when you have more health and possibly on lower difficulties. Armor skills increase based on number of times hit, not damage taken(Block is based on Damage though, so it's easy to max against Karstaag).

    • Without exploits, Level 56. My first character for whom I had not made any skills Legendary. Ranger/adventurer type, who did pretty much everything - this was before the DLC's though. I could have gone further, especially since he had hardly leveled anything in the Mage's branch, but I lost interest.

With the Restoration Loop I went to 81 or 82, can't remember, just to experience the Ebony Warrior and a Legendary Dragon.

    • No loops, no cheats, no codes. Presently level 108. Alchemy legendaried twice. ~10 other skills level legendaried once. Illusion, Restoration, and Conjuration not yet legendaried along with pickpocket and lockpicking. I'd like all perks--but that's A LOT of grind. Archery is taking surprisingly long to re-level. Speechcraft took a long time, and was why I did alchemy twice--for stuff to sell. Lockpicking and pickpocketing may be drawn out too. Destruction took a while. Master spell firestorm helps.

Imagine about 500 wolves, 700 dragons, 10000 draugr and oh idk, about a couple of those magic anomalies, yeah enjoy hell.

    • My max is level 152. That was done through alchemy after I've already beaten the Main Quest and both expansions. I beaten Main Quest, Dawnguard and Dragonborn in this sequence. I was level 97 or 98 when I beat Miraak. I didn't like how my level was much lower than his max so I raised it to level 151. Did a bunch of random stuff. At least taken out a Mage and Vampire base etc... killed both hidden bosses and reached 152 somewhere between.

My best non-cheated on Special edition so far is 549.

My best ever was on the PC (non-cheated) level 1596.

My best cheated was on PC... I don't think I have the save game... I think it got corrupt somewhere along the line.

There's no real incentive for going any higher, and the grind just keeps getting more and more tedious.

    • DO NOT level up above 100.

It's funny, lots of people are in here talking about levels over 200 or even bragging about way higher but I didn't notice anyone mention that being on level 100+ is absolutely unnecessary and breaks the game.

Regardless of how you leveled up, if you reach 100+, a lot of the enemies, as well as followers, are all level capped so you are often the only one that powerful. Enemies become lame and your followers too, it wouldn't be fun anymore. Then when you do encounter SOME enemies that have no level cap and scales to your level, they will have health so high it will take you 30 minutes or more to kill a single 200+ level bandit. To make that worse, your followers remain level capped and cannot help you kill that high leveled enemy.

The reason why level 100+ isn't practical anymore is because on those levels, only your health, stamina, magicka continue to increase. Weapons, armor etc will not level up with you. You could use alchemy loops to make your gear do more damage but that's not a proper fix. I reached level 150 and regretted it, I had to install mods to make enemies, equipment, magic damage etc scale levels with me and also mods that increase game difficulty. If you can't use mods or console commands, you'd have a hard time reversing the negative effects of reaching a level too high.

yeah, magic anomalies are the only oponent (that I know of) with no level cap.

If I am not mistaken their levels are calculated like this: player level multiplied by 1,1

so your magic anomalies are about level 21 232 555: almost 3 milion level stronger than you!

    • RenzXVI:  Going past 100 doesn't in itself make the game easy.  More Magicka Health and Stamina don't mean much if you can't deal enough damage or take a hit.  Destruction Mages for example, would need to invest in Alchemy to make high level Fortify Destruction Potions to match a any non mage character, since weapons can be upgraded to deal higher damage before taking potions into accout.  And even a mid level Destruction mage can do as well as a Level 100+.

Warriors/Archers/Thieves all rely on physical weapons to deal damage and how easy things become is based on how high they upgrade their weapons.

It's the same with reducing damage taken, level doesn't mean anything if you have max true defense and 80+ spell absorption.

You also are assuming everyone finds a game boring when they are OP, which I'd wager most people don't care, otherwise they wouldn't use the Necromage glitch, the Restoration glitch, VL, broken enchantments, etc.

Personally, IF I use alchemy loops for stronger potions/enchants I limit myself so that the character doesn't become broken on the particular difficulty.  Every character is just strong enough to be fun/somewhat powerful while not making the game boring.

My vanilla character only gets 278 damage with Miraak's Sword, which has the highest base damage for a one handed sword...

I didn't say the game was easy if your level was high, I mostly emphasized on the game being unbalanced because you would encounter enemies that take 30 mins to kill while others remain significantly lower level than you. I also briefly mentioned exactly what you were talking about, I've said you'd need to use alchemy loops to fix it, which includes both mage and melee gear.

I also didn't say you would be OP, remember how I said you'd meet enemies which you'd need over 30 mins to kill? My topic is mainly about levels, not exactly the alchemy exploits. If you leveled up that far and didn't use alchemy loops then your game is broken, that is exactly my point, don't level up over 100+. I may have used the word "powerful" but I mostly meant powerful regarding stats like health and magicka / stamina etc, which I actually explained in the following sentences, I didn't say you are powerful via damage. Further down the line, I also backed that up by explaining how you need to use alchemy exploits to balance your damage with your health etc due to your level being too high.

      TL;DR:
      • Having too high level will make entities very tedious to kill (high health) while low level entities that didn't scale with your level are easy to kill (including your followers).
      • Having too high damage and armor because of your gear being powerful through alchemy loops will make you OP regardless of your level.
Bottomline, if you want to be powerful, go with alchemy loops but don't exaggerate with your level, preferably it stays below 100. You can even enchant a wooden sword to one hit kill Alduin through alchemy exploits.

So it seems like you may have misunderstood every single thing I have said. As far as I see, you seem to share the same views that I have, if only you actually understood my points.

I have one on an older save that's at 72, don't know if I've ever gone past that. Will have to press the legendary skills a bit more one of these days and see if I can crack the 100 mark.

I imagine you have to do a lot of those repetitive type quests. As a noob I tended to run out of major "meaningful" questlines and the game simply got boring so I played something else for half a year before starting up a new Skyrim character. Now I tend to take my time with everything a bit more, and have been discovering a lot of things I previously missed.

there you go thats my help!
