What is Lyg?

  • I have seen it in the Map Comparison of Tamriel and Earth. It is also mentioned in the Mythic Dawn Commentaries 4, as well as being mentioned by Mankar Camoran. It seems to be a version of Tamriel, yet oriented. Is it real? If so, what is it?

    • Not much is known. Lyg is basically a parallel version of Tamriel. It is called one of the "Adjacent Places". According to to author, it appears to be located on Nirn itself.

    • I honestly don't like the idea of Lyg existing on Nirn, Coldharbour is one thing but a continent with the whole "parallel universe" concept going on with it should not be only a few thousand miles away from it's twin.

From Bethesda? No, but many TES lore fans accept the work of Michael Kirkbride and consider his writings canon.

    • Does it require an article on the wiki?

        Loading editor
    • No.

        Loading editor
    • Why not?

        Loading editor
    • Because alot of people on this wiki seem to hate Kirkbrides lore,

it doesn't necessarily need a page but I feel like it coudn't hurt to make one.

    • It not for the MK hate. It's because it's such an obscure and highly speculative thing, that an article would not really work. The refs would all be MK works.

Absolutely not. Aldmeris never existed rather it represents the sundering of the Old Ehlnofey race into the various races of Mer.

the simplest way I could explain it(and by no means is it a perfect explanation), the matrix if you're agent smith

CHIM is Ehlnofex for "royalty". Achieving CHIM is basicly understanding that the Aurbis is a dream from a powerful, but unconscious entity called the Godhead. People who achieve CHIM must realize that everything is the godhead but they also have to stay aware of themselves (basicly they need to still be able to say "I am"). If they fail the last part, they zero sum. When someone zero sums, this person is basicly "deleted" from the Godheads dream and will never appear in another Kalpa again.

CHIM is different as there is basis in the lore. The problem is very few people on this wiki are knowledgable enough about MK lore to do it properly. It's no good making a stub page about it.

You are quite knowlegable, so if you wish to try, then I'd support that - but a page should be sandboxed first with input from a few others.

An inacurate CHIM page is much much worse than a no CHIM page - especially for the already mixed reputation of this wiki.

I know, I'm just a wikia contributor without an account, but I agree with you. On the Bethesda forum, almost everyone says that this wiki is bad because of reasons like "lore is inaccurate in the Elder Scrolls Wiki" or like "They ignore MK". I think that a relatively accurate page about CHIM would really help to make the reputation of this wiki a little bit better. Maybe even something about Amaranth or Enatiomorph.

I'm thinking CHIM just for now. As you said there are alot of pages with inacurate lore and that is a more important thing to deal with.

Absolutely right. I browse a few different lore forums, and this wiki's rep is lower than dirt for lore discussions. Pages about MK lore might help as its an area that UESP doesn't really cover - p.provided it is accurate and fully referenced. Have you seen the page on The Towers?

P.S. You're not "just" a wiki contributer - anon users can be just as helpful as registered users.

Then that would be fanon, not canon.

    • not exactly, MK used to be the head lore writer, and even still a lot of lore added to skyrim and Oblivion included a lot of the work he's published in the Imperial Library after he left bethesda.

        Loading editor
    • If we are going to start adding MK lore than we definitely are going to want to start with CHIM and slowly go on from there. If the MK lore does not connect togethor than everything will turn into a mess.

Back to Lyg. Not all, Mythic Dawn Commentaries 4 mentions it. As well as Mankar Camoran.

    • Exactly, there is only 1 mention in the whole of the "official canon". The "bowels of Lyg". There is not realy enough of a fully developed concept to warrant a full page.

I've seen that page and it seems accurate, though the Towers are one of the more "simple" concepts MK invented. A page about the Enatiomorph concept would already be a start. After that, pages about CHIM and Amaranth could be written. The only really important thing is that the pages need to be as accurate as possible.

The problem there is when you start getting into the deep stuff, everyone has their own theories and very little is 100% confirmed, as that is MK's style. Writing an accurate page that everone agrees on becomes hard.

The most popular theories could be listed on the pages for CHIM, Amaranth, etc. The "Facts" or "what we know" should come before. For example, on the CHIM page, the stuff we know is that Vivec and Tiber Septim achieved CHIM, that someone who attempts CHIM is in constant danger of zero summing, that someone who achieved CHIM becomes aware of the Godhead and can directly affect the dream, and all other known things.

True, and given that CHIM means "royalty" in Ehlnofex, it seems fitting.
