I apologize if there is already a thread about this, but I tried looking and I could not find one. The question I have is, where is Tiber Septim buried? The Tiber Septim article and the general lore state that he is buried in Sancre Tor, along with the Reman Emperors. This makes sense because Sancre Tor played a huge part in Tiber Septim's rise to power, with the recovery of the Amulet of Kings. It also makes sense because this is the burial location of previous Dragonborn Rulers such as the Emperors of the Reman Dynasty and traditionally St. Alessia herself. However, Tiber Septim being buried in Sancre Tor does not make sense to me for several reasons.
Possible Spoilers Below.
First during the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, if you try to enter Sancre Tor before getting the key a message appears saying: A weather-worn iron plaque is affixed to the door above an imposing lock. The inscription is barely legible. 'Sealed by authority of the Grandmaster of the Blades, 36th Year of the Reign of Tiber Septim.' Tiber Septim is generally viewed to have reigned for roughly 80-81 years before dying at the age of 108. This message tells us that Sancre Tor was sealed in the somewhat early years of Tiber Septim's reign.
Next during the quest Blood of the Divines in Oblivion, speaking with the ghost of one of the cursed blades indicates that the four cursed blades were sent by Tiber Septim himself to investigate the dark powers taking hold over Sancre Tor. This tells us that not only was Sancre Tor sealed while Tiber Septim was alive, but it was also already cursed and most likely crawling with undead.
The third reason that Tiber Septim being buried in Sancre Tor doesn't make sense to me is that his tomb is not a viewable location while exploring Sancre Tor. Some have suggested that the chamber where you find the Armor of Tiber Septim is his burial place. But upon closer inspection, the only visible casket in the chamber is that of Reman III, who died centuries before Tiber Septim. If Tiber Septim, the founder of the Third Empire and one of the most important figures in Elder Scrolls Lore is buried in Sancre Tor, why wouldn't his tomb be a visitable location? And if it does exist in Sancre Tor, all logic dictates that he would have been buried closer to the entrance than Reman III, seeing how Reman III died centuries earlier.
These reasons raise many questions in terms of Tiber Septim's actual burial place. If Sancre Tor was already sealed, cursed and crawling with undead while Tiber Septim was alive, why would he still wish to be buried there? Why is his tomb not viewable, but Reman III's is depite having died centuries earlier? And if Tiber Septim is NOT buried in Sancre Tor, where are his remains? The most sensible location would have been Skyrim where he spent his youth, but there is no indication of that. The only other location might be somewhere in High Rock where he may have been born, but again there is no indication. Perhaps he was given a Nordic funeral and his body burned, similar to Kodlak Whitemane. Or maybe this is further proof that Tiber Septim did ascend into godhood upon his death, and left no physical remains behind except his armor.
I know that I'm reading far too much into what is most likely an oversight of the developers, but I love the lore of the Elder Scrolls series and these questions have always bugged me.
